  • Hi!

I'm a newbie. I have 5 pounds to lose and am diabetic on metformin. I have a spare tire and awful blood lipids. Do I start with a full two weeks of induction? I'm 5'4" and 125 pounds. I don't want to be skinny, just healthy.
    Any ideas?

    Re: Hi!

You could probably start with OWL.

      Re: Hi!

That sounds good. I go to my doctor in two weeks for a check-up. Then I'll compare my before and after numbers. Thanks.

        Re: Hi!

Along with reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), you might want to read Dr. Atkins Diabetic Revolution.

          Re: Hi!

Hounded -- it may take more than 2 weeks to see significant changes in your blood sugar readings....how far out of wack are they? I'm on metformin also and have slowly taken my blood sugars from horrid to reasonable (on most days)....my A1C has gone from 10.3 December 2008 to 5.0 as of December 2009.

          Good luck to you.

            Re: Hi!

            Thanks for suggesting the book.
Also, here are my blood sugars:
At diagnosis in Sep, '09:A1c 7.2 and a week later 7.0
            Dec, 09: 6.5
During this time I was cutting back on carbs on my own with no particular plan.
I want to get my Aic below 6 and try for normal blood lipids.
My physician had me on a low fat diet for years! Weight didn't change too easily. And I was very good on it but just carbed myself into diabetes! The pounds came off so easily decreasing carbs, but I need a better road map now. Hopefully Atkins can give me the chance.

              Re: Hi!

You were lucky to get your A1C checked before it got out of control....6.0 would put you in the "diet controlled diabetic" area so it looks like you're doing fine.
