  • Diabetes and atkins?

    Hi there,

I have recently found that I am pre diabetic.
I am wondering if Atkins is a good choice for me? Or should I stick to the Diabetic Association guidelines?
    Any advise?

Yes, Atkins is a great choice!

One of the main purposes of Atkins is blood sugar stability.

Most people on Atkins groups that have tried the ADA "guidelines" were not able to lower or stabilize their blood sugar like they were on Atkins.

Along with reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), you might want to read Dr. Atkins Diabetic Revolution.

There are a couple books you should read, one by a Dr Bernstein out of Canada. Also Dr Atkins has a book for diabetics.
      The Atkins Diabetic Revolution.
This is a pretty good article on the sub of low-fat diets vs low-carb

        Re: Diabetes and atkins?

        Hi and welcome --

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in June of 2008 -- I followed the ADA guidelines from June until December -- I was disgusted and had only lost 8 pounds with lots of frustration.

After looking around for something else I found this site in end of December and signed up ..... on January 5, 2009 I started and have enjoyed everyday. My A1C has gone from 10.3 to 5.0 (this past December when I saw my endocrinologist last) - I lost 35 pounds with little effort and delicious meals.

I would and have recommended Atkins to other diabetics who are feeling the same way I did. You will find many doctors who disagree with the plan because they haven't read the book. My endo isn't wild about what I'm doing but she loves the results I'm getting so in the end she says that's what matters. Besides dropping my A1C I've also gotten my cholesterol, triglicerides and blood pressure in line the last blood lab I had done the "fatty liver" result had been taken care of also.

It's your choice but I would neve go back to the ADA way.....
