  • Day 13 of Induction...Hello!

    Hey there,

I have reading this board for the last 2 weeks and I thought it was about time to introduce myself. My name is Naomi. I'm 34 years old and I have been struggling with overeating, weight, and body image since I was about 14...probably even sooner than that (I can remember hiding while eating Brachs caramels at Thanksgiving when I was probably 4 years old.) Anyway, I have been off and on Weight Watchers for the last 20 years, and while I have had some successes on the plan, there were more failures. After 13 days on Atkins' plan I now realize (or admit) that I am addicted to sugar and carbs. I feel a freedom from food that I have never once experienced in my life. I don't think about it all day (even when I am home from work, with sick kids..usually a sugar and carb loaded day.) I am finally satisfied, and while I realize that there are bound to be struggles ahead, for now, I am okay (I do get a little worried about never eating cake, candy, ice cream, donuts, etc. again, but I figure I will worry about it one day at a time.)
    Thanks for this forum.

Hey Naomi, you will love this diet and believe me, you just won't miss the cake and donuts at all. We get such awesome foods that they pale in comparison.
Since you have a sweet tooth make sure that is the first thing you get rid of. Been there and done that, and I wish I had had that advise when I first started. Stay away from sweets for the first two weeks and you will be amazed at how well you do.

If you need anything, just post away.

Thanks Desertthorn. It is really nice to know there are people out there just like me who are going though or have gone through exactly what I am going through.

I have had a few diet sodas over the past couple of weeks but I am leery of them because I do not want to sabotage how well I have been doing. I am also a bit nervous about entering the next phase. I do well with an all or nothing approach and as I start to add back foods, I worry how I will be affected.

Bottom line ... you don't get to maintenance without doing OWL.

I guess I should just tell myself that if I was able to do Induction (which if you would've told me would happen just a day before starting, I would have called you crazy) I can do OWL! Thanks for the replys!

              Hi and welcome Gnaomi --

Glad to see you joined the water challenge!! Take OWL in steps...it's less scarey if you don't look at the big picture, but in a smaller scale...Rung 1 of OWL is 5 additional net carbs of vegetables - no worries there....pick something new you haven't been eating and try it out. When you have tried enough vegetables you can move to Rung 2 and add Dairy (cottage cheese always tastes good to me - and I never liked it before!!)....and so on. There is no right or wrong how long you stay on each rung but just remember, it's not a race so take your time getting to pre-maintenance. When you do get there you'll know which foods you can eat without problems and which ones give you problems.

              Good luck to you!!
              Carole
