  • Another Second-Timer (First Time on Board)

I did Atkins about 10 years ago and went from a size 22 to a size 12 (I'm 5'9 so a 12 on me looks pretty good) but went back to eating poorly and gained all of the weight back. I honestly think that I am one of those people who is just intolerant to sugar because it does horrible things to my body. At the end of January I got on the scale at my friend's house and it said "ERR." It measured weight only up to 250 lbs, which meant I was over that (turns out I weighed 277 lbs). I was so upset that I decided that I was going to have to go back to the ONLY diet that has ever worked for me - Atkins.

I was also very pleased to learn that there have been studies saying that Atkins helps with PCOS, which I was diagnosed with last summer, and am hoping that getting my weight in check will help me with that issue as well.

I have been using The Daily Plate site to help track my food intake (carbs, fat and protein) and it seems to be a very helpful tool in telling me what I have eaten. So far I have lost 23 lbs... but I have 114 lbs to go! I'm trying to not let the overall number overwhelm me and have also set short-term goals that I have been reaching. Hopefully in time I will make it to my ideal, healthy size.

Mostly, I just wanted to post to tell everyone out there who has never done this before that it DOES work and you will feel better than you ever imagined once you get past the first two weeks where your body is getting used to not having carbohydrates to fuel itself. In the month that I have been back on Atkins, I have gone from sleeping poorly (3-2 hours at a time and then waking up at all hours of the night) and being tired all the time to being on a NORMAL sleep schedule of 10 p.m. - 7 a.m. and only waking up once a night to use the restroom (from all that water!)

... although it does help if you don't have a boyfriend literally putting brownies in your face and saying, "You know you want one." But I'll be the one laughing when I'm thin and he's still overweight!
