  • New Kid On The Block!

    Hey guys,

Starting Atkins for the first time! I'm 21 years old and i'm hoping to shift around 40-50lbs as my long term goal. I bought Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution about 2 weeks ago and have now read it thoroughly, its given me a lot of motivation and i can't wait to start. I'm clearing out my cupboards and fridge tomorrow and restocking it with Atkins friendly food for induction.

I joined this site mainly for some help throughout my journey to keep my motivation high. I love reading all the inspiring stories about how much weight you guys have lost.

I hope to get to know you all a lot better!

Re: New Kid On The Block!

I began way back.. in 2004/2005... lost from 165 or so down to 135.. stayed there a long time... over the years... slipped back into my sugar habits.... not running as much as before... recently had thyroid cancer.. and long story short... was at my alllllll time high weight of 194.8 (at the doctors office)..

          I cried like a baby...

I bought a new scale.. and my first weigh in on my new home scale was 190.4 on Feb. 20

I've been eating the Atkins way since Feb. 16.. or 17th.. and this morning.. on my same new home scale weighed 180.0

I realize the first 'huge' weight loss is some water and such (from my chemo and hospital IV's and such)... but I don't care.. I just want it gone...

so... I'm a 'return' atkins person... it works.. I know it does...... and have no idea how I can let myself go.. once I'm down to my goal..

I'm not going to let it happen this time!

(I'm sure that's WAY more than you wanted to know)

sometimes I feel guilty for being here.. like I'm a 'failure atkins dieter'... but I look at it more like I finally got smart... and came home to what I know works..

it will work... for both of us!

(it's hard for me sometimes.... because I LOVE fruit.. and sugar.. and all things sweet.. )

Good for you for realising what's right for yourself! I would hardly call you a failure and with all your difficulties too.......! At least you're back on track.

My life hasn't really posed anything as hard as yours and i suppose the main reason for my weight gain has been my unhealthy lifestyle. I've been a constant yo-yo dieter from the age of 14, which always resulted in me straying from the diet and gaining the weight i lost plus extra. Eventually it all caught up with me and i'm now 181lbs (so similar to your current weight!). I've always been unhappy about my appearance, so i've decided it's time for a change. This is the first time i'm viewing a diet as a lifetime choice rather than a quick fix and from reading the book, i think atkins could potentially be perfect for me.

For now though i'm going to try and get through induction as smoothly as possible. I know what you mean about the sweet thing, i'm actually curious more than anything to see how my body will react to not having any carbs. Hopefully it's not too extreme.

I really hope it does work for the both of us! It's great having a forum like this to keep eachother motivated too. Best of luck to you Peytonn. X

Re: New Kid On The Block!

as much as I still think about cake.. (even snack cakes like little debbies.. ).. and candy.. when I'm doing this.. I'm able to resist it... when I'm not... I'm honestly a binge eater... I can eat an entire cherry cream cheese pie in a day.. by myself.. that's 16 oz cream cheese.. a can of sweetened condensed milk.. cherry pie filling on top.. and a shortbread crust (bought.. keebler).. but I'm sure it's what??... maybe 6 or 7 thousand calories.. and I'm not kidding when I say i can eat the whole thing..

during Christmas.. my Mama bought me a fruitcake... a $55 fruit cake.. from Collins Street bakeries (she still has over 3/4 of hers in the fridge)... mine was eaten... completely by ME.. in less than one week.. and they have 37,000 calories in the thing...

the real goal of this thing (aside from losing weight of course).. is to reset our bodies and minds.. (as I understand it).. to use fat for fuel... and the appetite really does decrease.. I find myself now having to eat something.. when I realize I haven't eaten for almost 6 hours..

I know this time is the charm!
