  • Freaking out (kinda)

    Sooo, hi.

From a 26 year old coder chick who weighs about 263 right now which is really cheesing me off.

So, ah, I'm terrible at this introduction thing but here I am. I tried atkins (briefly) once before and couldn't really stick with it (mostly for feeling hungry/miserable) but I did loose weight, and well, for some reason I've gone from hanging around 250 steady for a while (PCOS, aint it fun?), to being unable to stop gaining no matter what I do for the past several weeks.

So, we're back here. Hoping to stick with it this time, or at least use it as a launch pad to a much lower carb diet no matter what.

I'm kind of high stress and i'm freaking out pretty badly at the moment about finding the time to cook and managing to figure out menus and all that stuff. As this time, sticking to the letter except splenda sweetened soda. I can't deal with giving up a caffiene/diet soda addiction at the same time (yes i know, but I know myself, I'm not going to upheave my diet *and* my soda habit at the same time and do anything but be 100% unhappy and that's not going to last...)

    Anyhow, well, hi.

Hoping to drop about 20 pounds in about 3.5 months (which I think is really reasonable) as a starter goal. More would be great! Eventually I'd like to weigh about 135-140.

hey there.. first.. do you have the book? the 2002 one?

it really helps me stay on track.. when I'm feeling like giving up and stuff... if you dont' .. my suggestion is hit up ebay.. they're really cheap there...

the cool thing.. is.. you really don't have to cook with this.. hit the deli and grab a roasted chicken, and a bag of salad mix to bring home and you're set..

throw a big ole roast in the crock pot ... that kind of thing....

I was with you on the diet soda.... I thought i couldn't live without my diet pepsi and diet mtn dew.. and such.. and while there are diet drinks (diet rite.. all flavors).. with splenda (a 'legal' sweetner')... I have found that the weight comes off much better with water.. just plain water.... ...

    again.. welcome..

Hey, no but i will pick it up tonight or this week. I double checked what I remembered as the 02 rules as best i could on the forums and such to get me going. as if i dont shop tonight and cook some it'll be a few days before i start.

And i'm sure you're right on the soda/water business. I'm really sure you are. It's a goal once I get going a couple weeks in and haven't given up (i hope), to address that problem. I've been cutting back a lot (I used to be one of those frightning people who could have 8 cans of diet mtn dew a day pretty easily without noticing). I'm down to about 1 20 oz + unsweet tea or 2 20oz a day, which sounds like a ton but..well..gotta start somewhere.

nope.. 2 20oz doesn't sound like a ton to me.. lol

I can easily drink 4 of the 24 ounce ones (the big ones that come in 6 pack bottles)..

I can drink 2 or 3 dew during the day.. then I'd have caffeine free diet pepsi at night.. one or 2 of those...

I completely understand 'easing into' this thing.. while I know it's best if you can completely.. totally commit to doing it perfectly the first time... realistically.. it's just not going to happen for many of us (myself included)...

this is my 2nd time around.. and I know it works.. and I'm still on the path every day to 'try to get it right'..

(like I said in another thread.. I'm like an atkins loser.. failure.. and back again)...

I stayed around 135 for a long long time.. but age.. bad eating.. thyroid cancer.. and BOOM.. I feel like I exploded... so I understand the freaking out part... I cried like a baby at the weigh in at the docs office .. it shocked me into buying a new scale.. digging out my Atkins book.. and realizing that pounds of hersey kisses ain't getting it done...

          Atkins will..

(I'm only about 2 weeks in.. and down to 180.0 this morning)

Watch out for deli chickens, many have lots of sugary solutions injected into them and flour on the skin, not as healthy as they look. I don't have any around here that are atkins allowed.

              Re: Freaking out (kinda)

the Ingles grocery store here just does them in the rotisserie thing.. (dozens at the time).. with just dry rub stuff on them... lemon pepper, cajun, italian, or plain....

no sugary anything (not injected or basted like turkeys).. they're just chickens from the cold meat case in the back of the store..

but that's something to watch out for..

That's good. I've asked everywhere and all the ones here have either dry rub with sugar or injections in the plain to keep them from drying out. I even stopped at the grocer where they had ribs outside in a cooker smoking and asked them if they have sugar and was told yep their rub has sugar. All were already treated so couldn't get a sugar free one. Darn it

                  Re: Freaking out (kinda)

I guess you're stuck having to roast your own in the oven though.....

I don't eat the skin anyway... so most of the seasoning is gone... they cook these things so much they literally fall apart.. and I did ask about injections (I know they do that to most turkeys)...

funny thing is.. they cook over 100 chickens in the same big old glass thing (you can see them going round and round... ).. so whatever seasoning is on one row of chickens has to drip onto the others.. (because they cook plain, pepper, cajun... all at the same time)... they all basically taste the same... (just like plain chicken)

all I know is I've eaten them... and I'm losing... for now...
