  • just starting please need help

    here is a little about me i'm 21 female and this is my first time on atkins and i am comited to lossing a grand total of 80 pounds and i am 5'8.5 my starting weight was 200 and now i am down to 179

    okay so i have been on the induction phase for five days now yay me and i have lost 4 pounds but including the weight i lost prior to atkins that now puts me at a total lost of 21 pounds.
    now this all seems well and good but i weighed myself this mornig as is my ritual and i gained a pound i haven't cheated or anything but goodness im worried why did i gain help

    Daily weight fluctuations are perfectly normal.



    Is your goal 120 lbs? Based on your BMI, you'd be underweight at that weight.

      You're 5'8" and you want to be 120lbs? Definitely not a healthy weight.

      Weight will go up and down even if nothing changes in what you eat. I have times I'll gain 3-5lbs during the week but will be down by the end of the week below what I was at the week befores weigh in. It bounces around but it always settles lower.

        well i definiatly don't want to be underweight . maybe i should shoot for my weight in high school which was 139 and work on muscle tone

        but aside from that thank you guys for telling me it's normal i was worried i was backsliding for some reason

          You might consider checking out what a person of your height and frame should weigh, and set your goals accordingly. I'd settle for 150 pounds.

          I went on the Atkins diet in 2004. I didn't make it a resolution for the new year, because resolutions always go by the way side. Anyhow, I was 225 at that time. I lost during the induction, then the ongoing weight loss and maintained my new weight of 175 for some time. Here I am again, back on the Atkins diet so that I can get down to... well I'd really settle for 160. I'm 58 years old, and 5'4", and I know that 160 is still overweight, but I'll be happy with that for some time.

          So, worry not, it can be done!
