  • Time to take control....

Hey everybody. I'm new here and on a serious quest for a lifestyle change.

I'm 29 years old, married and living a pretty nomadic life due to the nature of my husbands job (military).

Over the past year and a half due to the stresses of life, moving and a general change in activity and diet I've gained about 50 pound which is absolutely ridiculous.

I got on the scale today and it registered at 227 pounds. I'm only 5'7". I get winded now doing regular things like chores around the house or going to check the mail. None of my clothes fit anymore and I just generally feel unattractive.

I realized a long time ago that I'm a total carb addict and have always been. The only difference now is that I'm a lot more sedentary than I ever was because of my job (writer) that requires me to sit at a desk for 10 hours a day. I've tried low carb before and it worked really well for me but you know how it is, eat one carb and it turns into 10 and before you know it you're addicted again.

I'm ready to put the past in the past, get this weight off of me once and for all and have set an initial goal of 175lbs which will put me back around where I was before I started piling it on. After that I will take my time and work down to where I want to settle in terms of a final weight (150lbs) and in terms of eating habits.

I'm ready to do this and I need all the support I can get. I will not turn 30 looking and feeling like a (very large) shadow of my former self.

    Thanks for listening.

It can be tough finding time to exercise and stay active with a sedentary job. I have found the hard way that you have to make it a priority. No choice about it and the older you get the more mandatory it is. Atkins will get you started on the right road and give you the motivation to start moving!

Thank you so much ladies. You are so right. The age thing is really creeping up. Where as once I could eat whatever and it never made a difference, or I could sit on my butt all day and it wouldn't get bigger, things are changing!

I'm going to commit to moving my body for at least 30 minutes a day and just being more active in general.

Thank you so much for the encouragement!

Today is Day 1 for me and I'm about to go make my induction breakfast.

Hi Liv. I made a nice crustless quiche with eggs, a little cheddar cheese and some spinach. It came out pretty good. I'm about to drink a cup of "egg drop soup" that I make with a bullion cube and one egg. Later on it's grilled chicken and broccoli.

Starting to feel the carb withdrawals but I'm drinking water and not giving in. Might go for a walk later to take my mind off of it and help blast through those carbs in my system faster.

I'm also seasoning a whole chicken that I'm going to pop into my showtime rotisserie oven. That way I can always have some protein done and ready to eat.

I'm going to be so happy when this first day is over. It's always the worst on any new WOE.

First days can be tough. Great that you have it planned out that well. Those bullion cubes can have interesting ingredients so maybe you can boil down the bones of your chicken later on and make some good healthy bone broth to use for your next egg drop soup. Have a little more fat here are there. And do not be afraid to eat protein/fat snacks in the beginning if you feel like eating. It helps. Personally I like devilled eggs or smoked salmon. Or some prosciutto with some cucumber.

Thanks for that tip Liv. That's an awesome idea about the broth!

I think my biggest challenge will be to find things to cook and eat that will keep me interested and not too bored. I think it's time to check out the recipe section!
