    Today is day one for me.

    I am really hoping to make this work. I don't want to be one of those people who posts once or twice and never comes back.

    One year ago I started Chantix to quit smoking and I did. I quit March 28. With my new grapple on a healthy lifestyle, I spent spring and summer exercising, introducing more fruits and veggies to my diet. I quit coffee, caffeine, and stopped buying a lot of junk food.

    After 6 months, I'd lost 4 pounds. I got awfully tired of hearing that I was "building muscle" and losing inches when in fact I wasn't losing inches. I was doing 45 minutes of strength training 4 days per week, a minimum of an hour of cardio exercise, plus I had my kids and dogs and husband out for miles-long walks in the evenings. I used sparkpeople to input my daily calories and ate within the guidelines. Nothing.

    I got discouraged, gave up over the winter and put on the typical 30 pounds from quit smoking. I guess that's all I accomplished last summer; I staved off that weight gain.

    I am not looking for a miracle. I'd just like to buy new pants after a few months.

    Mini Goal #1: Fit back into "Fat Jeans" - MET 3/25/10!
    Mini Goal #2: 225
    Mini Goal #3: 210
    Mini Goal #4: 199
    Mini Goal #5: Remove wedding ring for repair (Happily Married!)

            Thank you all for the warm welcome!

            My first day went great! As I'd already been working on portion control, not having the pasta with my dinner was no big deal. I ate just 18 carbs on my first day from cucumber, celery and a roma tomato.

            This morning I woke up with a crushing headache, from what I've read this is normal. Today I should be getting a copy of the 2002 book from the library that I put on hold - I'd read the older one 12 years ago, so I know I have some brushing up to do!

              Don't be afraid to take OTC pain relievers for that headache. Makes it easier to get through the low spot if you aren't in pain. Won't hurt your losses.

              Congrats on your first day going well.

                I can't get over how much you all have lost. JulieB, your pictures look like mother/daughter! And poobear, OMG, you've lost a whole person. That must feel wonderful!
