I am a stay-at-home mom of a beautiful two year old little boy. I have always been on the "heavier," side except when I was 16 and was given a trip to Germany from my loving grandparents. While I was on that trip, i was too busy sightseeing and visiting family to worry about food. I got down to my lowest weight ever as an adult, but I can't even remember what that was. I know that I have never been under a size 14/16. I slowly started to gain that weight back, and when I turned 21 packed on a few more pounds thanks to alcohol and bad food choices. French fries were my friend. I met my husband, Paul, in mid-June of 2002 and we hit it off instantly. We moved in together and got pregnant in October of 2003. Our sweet little girl was born still on April 21st, 2004 and my weight has steadily climbed since then. I somehow have ballooned to a big honking, busting out of a size 26/28. I took a trip to Lane Bryant, (the fat lady store), a couple of weeks ago, and I was having a hard time finding a shirt that fit me and was flattering, and I finally said, ENOUGH!!! I have a wonderful girlfriend who has the same medical condition as I do, (PCOS,Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and she mentioned one day while we were having lunch, that she tried the low carb thing and lost 30 pounds in one month. Well there you go folks, that was all it took. I happened to find the Atkins New Diet Revolution book at my local thrift store. I read it cover to cover and started planning. First I had to talk my husband into it. He is overweight as well, and honestly, I have no idea how he has even survived this long with the crappy diet he has. He actually agreed to try it with me, so last week we got rid of all of our "carby" food, and this morning we began our Atkins journey. My two year old son of course still gets to eat bread, and crackers, and snacks that we don't dare touch, but I really believe that eating the natural, whole foods you are allowed on Atkins, we will be teaching our son a healthier way of eating also. Who can find fault with choices like various meats, fish, eggs, cheese, and veggies? (Well my husand can, but he is still doing it!) We started last Tuesday, on March 9th, 2008, and my husbands first official weigh in yesterday, he had lost a whopping 17 pounds,
and I had lost an amazing, but slightly smaller 10.8, I sure am not going to complain! It took me a lot longer then a week to put that on, so no whinning from me! I am excited to have started this journey, and can't wait to see where it takes me, I would like to say hopefully to a size 8 or smaller, but that seems like such a pipe dream since I have never been that small, I had better stick with a goal of 160 pounds!
