  • Saying Hello to everyone

    Hello,
I have just joined this bulletin board although I have been a visitor for several months. I started Atkins about a year ago and have lost 45lbs so far. I haven't filled out my profile yet but my staring weight was 202 and I am now at 157. I want to loose at least another 20 -25 lbs. I am almost 55years old. 5'2" and am a lifetime WW member - although that was right before my eldest child over 27 years ago! I've been back to WW several or even more than several times and have been succesful at loosing but never at maintaining. I really believe that Atkins WOE is something I can live with. The last 6 weeks or so I have only lost 3lbs and was getting very discouraged but looking at these questions have insipired me to start keeping a food diary.
I've lost inches these past few weeks and that has convinced me that I'm on the right path. I don't know how many inches I've lost because I didn't take measurement at the start, but I have had many people at work tell me these last weeks, during what I though was a stall, how much my shape has changed. I'm going to take measurements this evening so I can keep a record of my progress.
I have other questions but these I'll keep and post on the appropiate forum.
    Nice to meet you all,

Welcome to the board, Paula! And congrats on your weight loss so far! You must be so proud of yourself because you deserve to be!

It amazing how the inches can come off even when the scale isn't moving at all so those measurements are important. Keep up the good work!

Wow that is wonderful Paula. You are doing so well.
There was a long section of my weightloss period that I only lost inches and no or very little movement on the scale. But I love losing inches.
Are you eating on the OWL level now?

            Re: Saying Hello to everyone

Thank you for your replies. I'm not really on induction because I have added back allsorts of foods that I now realize are from different rungs = soft cheeses, nuts, strawberries, more veggies, BUT I think where I maybe going wrong was I did keep to around 20 net carbs until about 2 weeks ago. I am now going to try to find my CCLL and have increased my carbs to around 25 to 30. I thought I would try this for a couple of weeks or longer and see what happens. I don't think I'm going to go backwards to rung 1, as I haven't had any cravings, if anything I ahve lost more of my sweet tooth. My main reason for registering today is to join the challenge about the scale. It has become to important. I've already gone 3 days without stepping on the scale and having to check in will really help me stick with it.

You really should follow the OWL carb ladder.

                Re: Saying Hello to everyone

So you are suggesting that I stop eating the foods from rung 2, 3 and 4 and start at increasing the veggies. That would be a total of 25 carbs, 20 of them from veggies. I'll start that tomorrow then, as I had ricotta cheese with my breakfast.

thanks for the advice - do you suggest just one week at this level? So many posts I've read show that some people stay several weeks at the new level, so I'm confused.

                  Re: Saying Hello to everyone

I think you should follow the OWL carb ladder ... so if you're on OWL Rung 1, then you should be eating 25 net carbs, with about 17-20 coming from Induction vegetables.

Even though you had ricotta this morning, you can still continue on.

One thing you want to keep in mind is that you should only add one new food at a time ... and then only 3 times per week.

Why would you want to only do OWL 1 for one week? Aren't there other vegetables you want to try?

Of course, since you don't have much left to lose, and you should be on pre-maintenance with 5-10 pounds left until "goal", proceeding "ever so slowly" probably won't work too well.

If you stayed on Induction too long to begin with, you're just trying to reorder your rungs, I think ... instead of doing it all mixed up.

                    Thanks J.
I thinks I'm at least 20lbs away from goal and I'm going to read the pre maintenance section of the book.
