  • I am new to this board, but not to Atkins

Hi, my name is Spring. I am a 35 year old divorced mother of 4. I was first introduced to Atkins when I was 26 and about 150 pounds over weight. I started the diet and loved it. I lost 135 pounds in 9 months. I got pregnant with my fourth child and stopped following the plan. I gained about 70 pounds over the next few years.

I started out on Atkins full force again on 10/1/2009. To date I have lost 4 dress sizes. I have been exercising at the gym 3 days a week and also walking, running and riding my bike several miles a week. I am pretty happy with the results so far. I have reached a bit of a plateau though and have not lost much weight in the last month. I am still following induction as I need rapid weight loss for me to be encouraged. I have a feeling age is a factor on the slow down of my weight loss. Any tips or encouragement would be wonderful.

    start weight 280
    lost 65 pounds
    goal weight 190, for now
I will see if I need a new goal after that one
    25 pounds to go!
    I love my water!

Your body would probably start losing again if you moved to OWL.

    >>I am still following induction as I need rapid weight loss for me to be encouraged.>>

But that's not been happening, right?

I really should move to OWL, I am just afraid to gain weight. I know that is a crazy fear, since I have the willpower of a saint and couldn't cheat if I wanted to. I think I will give OWL a chance starting Monday. Thanks.

        What does OWL stand for?

And while some people do notice a bounce up when they move to OWL, once the body figures out what's going on ... the bounce goes away.

Doing what you're doing now isn't helping you lose ... I bet OWL will.

I really do know this, I just needed a little push. I am super body conscience and am so happy I am down to an 18. I just read though that a true plateau means no pounds or inches lost in 4 weeks. I have lost 2 inches off my waist and 2 off my hips and bust in the last 2 weeks. I am still losing something. I just need the scale to move. Like I said I will start the OWl on Monday, I just need to read more on it to do it right.

I am really just full of irrational fear. This is why I need a board of people like you to give me encouragement.

            And it will.

Maybe not the day you want it though.

              Hi Spring,

              OWL is good.
I was a little afraid too. I started in August, and went on Extended Induction after 2 weeks.

              December I lost 5#
              January I lost 1#
              February 1st I started OWL Rung/Level one - I lost 11# in February.
Was it OWL that helped me lose?... don't know. It can't hurt to try. An additional 5 net carbs from Vegetables can't hurt.

              Give it a try...

Question: I'm ignorant here-- why would a person's weight loss stall during in induction and then restart in OWL, when presumably they are eating more carbs?
