  • Day 5

    Hi All,

Started on Monday so I'm glad to have made it to Friday without giving in! I have used this diet before to lose a few pounds, so I know it works, but I have a lot more weight to shed this time -so I'm going to have to be more determined and stick at it for longer.

I've decided it's either time to lose this weight now - before I hit the big 5-0 next year - or I will be stuck with it forever. That, plus the fact that I am too tight to go out and buy trousers the next size up

Had no problems this week - the wife is being great about it cooking me all sorts of great stuff. She's kind of sticking to low carbs too, but she has tried before and can't handle all the protein.

My main worry will be ensuring the fibre intake is well up (don't mention the C word !!) as well as doing without all those glasses of lovely red wine that I enjoy. I might just have to have a G&T tonight though....

Ah well, I'll keep you posted...!

Atkins isn't "all the protein". It's actually a normal amount of protein.

    Why?

You know tonic is full of sugar, right?

Of course, there is diet tonic.

Welcome Willow - sounds like you have great support. My husband and I are doing this together, makes it so much easier to shop/cook/etc.

        Good luck!

          Re: Day 5

          Thanks for the welcoming messages!

Well of course I know that alcohol isn't strictly OK on induction. However, it was a good friend's birthday today so I felt on balance it wouldn't be too bad as a little treat. Also, reading around, I've never fully understood why the "right kind" of alcohol is banned, since the right kind contains zero carbs. I do understand it postpones fat burning for as long as it takes to get through your system, but zero carbs means it can't knock you out of ketosis, right?

AtkinsGal - its all the meat and egg she can't cope with, whereas I have no problems with that! Any ideas how she could follow? I've pointed out all the fish and seafood options, so if I persevere, maybe she might be tempted to join me.

And naturally I would never waste good carbs (or even when not dieting, good calories!) on drinking non-diet tonic! I did check the bottle

          Thanks again

            Re: Day 5

I was aksing about what version cause in 72 you could drink on induction.

alcohol delays fatburning as you say and fatburning is atkins ketosis. Also many folk discover that they can't drink the same amount of alcohol when doing Atkins induction as they could before and get into trouble from the intoxication and the bad choices they make eating bar foods.
we do get to add alcohol back to our Atkins WOE on rung 5 of OWL.

              Atkins isn't that though.

Alcohol (or food for that matter) shouldn't be a "treat".

I know the thinking that "I deserve <insert item here> is something a lot of us have to get over.

                Re: Day 5

Day 10 and hanging on in there - quite chirpy really, though I do feel a little more tired and morose, which apparently is not that uncommon. However, half a stone gone now and tummy looking a lot flatter (so the wife tells me!) so that is cheering me up no end.

Nearly got caught out by the food markings: remember, all you UK people, to IGNORE that "of which sugars" figure! Much of the time you have to look on the back of the pack for true carb content - and no subtracting those fibre grams again either! That carb figure IS your net carbs, end of. Any fibre listed is extra.

Managed to not have too many G&T at the weekend too - though I did succumb to a glass of wine with my Sunday lunch. Has anyone else got any input on the "alcohol during induction" front?

                Good luck all...

Diet T or real T? If real, it's got quite a lot of sugar in it.

Other than it's not allowed? That your body burns alcohol before burning fat?
