  • Just to Introduce Myself!

Hello... I am Sam and I'm 17 years old.

I can't say my weight loss story is inspirational, but I certainly have been trying several diets that have been thrown at me.

Ever since I was little, I've always had weight issues. I remember the look on my mothers face when she saw that I had stretch marks in second grade. My mother put the entire family on diets to inspire her weight loss, to make the family healthier, and to make cooking family meals easier. The Suzanne Somers Diet, South Beach Diet, and even just plain Low Calorie, Low Fat, and Low Sugar diets. None of them have ever worked.

I was sick of being this way through my school years and I decided the year before high school I'd MAKE myself skinny so I could "fit in." And what diet do you suppose I chose?

Anorexia/Bulimia. I'd exercise over 12 hours a day drinking only water.

I lost a total of 45 pounds that summer, and I kept losing throught the fall. Teachers wondered what was going on so I became vegan to mask this. Then my mom had an affair, my brother was high on psychedelics, and my best freind and I didn't talk. I got depressed and lonely; I relied on sugary vegan comfort foods, and the scale would not stop creeping up. 60 pounds later on top of a diagnosis for Bipolar I Disorder, I snapped. I felt horrible and uncomfortable in my own body. I've been pulled out of school for home tutoring twice for depression and panic attacks. I'm home for a month right now.

My mother gained about that much weight to, so I suggested the Atkins diet to her. We'd do the Induction phase for 2-4 weeks on my break. So many people have had fabulous results, so why can't I? heck, my mom for that matter.

It's been three days and I've lost 5 pounds. Same with my mother. We both have mini-goals. She wants to lose 30 bounds by her Nickleback concert and I want to lose 20 by the time I go back to school.

I'm using this as a joint account for the both of us. We have lost of questions, and hope to be a part of this forum.

That was pretty long, so I thank you if you read it all.

    Hey Glitter.
Nice of you to join us. Good luck to both of you.

I hope that you have received help for your issues with food.
Atkins can be a "masking" diet for some. I have seen that happen to some members here or elsewhere on the net. So approach it with a lot of caution and only if those who are helping you with your issues think it would be OK.

Try not to put time limits on your goals. My body almost always seems to rebel against time limits and I then end up disappointed. Now I am content to lose more slowly and concentrate on feeling better and more energetic instead of the number on the scale. And be sure to measure too. Sometimes you will lose inches even if you are not losing pounds. Be aware your weight will fluctuate a lot during the day and from day to day so do not become a slave to the scale.
