  • Getting Ready!!

    Hi all,

I have only just bought the new Atkins book and have been busy reading it, getting ready to start.

I am 32 years old, a mum of 2 boys and due to get married next May. I have been overweight for a long, long time and am sick of it. I am hoping my eldest boy (14) will come on this Atkins journey with me too.

I have a long road ahead - 40-45kgs in 13 months (in an ideal world) or as close as I can get. It has been wonderful reading all of the information on here and looking at the before and after photos - mind blowing!

The only question I have is whether to follow the new book or go out and get the older one (2002 version). I want to lose as much weight as I can in time for my wedding - any suggestions?

    Welcome to ADBB!

    >>I am hoping my eldest boy (14) will come on this Atkins journey with me too.>>

He shouldn't do any of the weight loss phases of Atkins without the knowledge of his pediatrician. Children have different nutritional needs. There's ways to improve what his current eating might be without Induction or OWL.

ADBB follows the 2002 book, so some of the advice you get will be from that version.

I think having the 2002 book is a good companion to the new book; it will allow you to see what changes were made in the new book.

Welcome, as J says we use the 2002 version, but for children and teens, Dr Fred Pescatore's book FEED YOUR CHILDREN WELL has often been recommended. It is based on Atkins but is more tuned into the nutritional needs of children and teens. Worth investigating.
