  • Im Sayin No to the Sweets! Determined & ready to start!

    Hello!

This week I had the crap I really need to lose the weight moment!
Today I had the Motivational Moment
Tonight I googled Atkins diet 2 hours ago! and found many insirational ppl.
Tomorrow I START DAY 1 to a happier healthier life.

I did the atkins diet 5 years ago and lost a quick 20 pounds. back then that was all i needed to lose and i was so active that i didnt have to worry about keeping it off.

Then torn ACL and 2 kneesurgeries later I found myself out of shape and 30 pounds heavier. Now its been 2 more years and another 20 pounds. Today i weighed in at 210. My goal is 160. I am 5'10' with an athletic build. At my smallest i was 130, but I am not sure that I want to be that again. I want to be a healthy 5'10". I cant remember what weight I was really feeling good at. I want to say about 150ish. If anyone reading this is a female around my height I would love to get an iea of what a size 6 or size 8 would be around. I know this varies. Im just trying to set my final GW.

Anyhow! I am very exited. Life for me is always a diet. If you know what I mean. But i want to end the on and off BS that many of you probably know about. I am ready to be focused. I have never read the Atkins book. But from what I remember the first phase is a 20 CARB MAX per day? correct.

Thanks to everyone on this site! I have never been on/ involved with a forum of this sort. Exited to look to these people when the sweet tooth calls.

    Cant wait till Monday!

Hi Britney, Atkins is a lifestyle choice and not a quick fix and I find as we age it becomes even more so. Welcome back and hope it sticks this time. We use the 2002 DANDR here so if you used a different version before know that advice here on the forum will be using the 2002 version.

    GOAL ONE 228

    FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

      Welcome to the boards!

There is a little more to it than just staying below 20carbs...if you don't have the book yet, check out the stickies at the top ofthe forums, they contain the rules of induction and the list of foods appropriate for induction.

      Best wishes,

        Welcome!

You're getting the book today, right?

Trying to do Atkins from memory won't likely work out very well.

          Welcome, Britney!

It's 20 NET carbs... not just 20 carbs... assuming you are following the plan in Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002), which is the one we follow at ADBB.

I hope you got the book today.

Below are also some sticky threads that you might need, but they are not a substitute for the book.

            welcome GSD!

And most of those 20 net carbs should some from allowed veggies. They are very important so don't skimp on them.

I can feel your excitement and am rooting for you!

Re: Im Sayin No to the Sweets! Determined & ready to start!

Welcome to ADBB. There's a good mix of information here from many people who share your goals and want to see you succeed. I for one like seeing how you went from no eating plan to making the decision and finding the motivation to follow through on the Atkins WOE (way of eating). Your journey sounds similar to mine.

What I'm not sure about is the goal setting you have entered in your S/C/G stats below your screen name. Am I correctly reading that you hope to lose 10 pounds every two weeks? That may be a bit lofty a goal IMHO. I know that when I fall short of a goal I tend to get discouraged. As a result, I find it better to skip the date and just post a weight, adding the date after I achieve it. It helps fend off the negativity which is critical to success on this (or any) plan.

              Good luck to you!
