  • My 3rd Day

    Hiya my name is grace, i am only 3 days in, i weigh about 11'4 and would like to be 9'7. I'm 5'9 so would love to be nice and slim. I'm at the end of my 3rd day and am enjoying the diet. I know alcohol slows weight loss down as your body burns the alcohol before the fat but surely a few vodkas once a week won't hurt lol what do you think??

    It's just i've quit smoking, and now i can't eat chocolate, so on a saturday night it would be nice

    Alcohol isn't permitted on Induction.

    Yes, drinking does "hurt".

      If slowing down your weight loss means to you that alcohol "won't hurt", what exactly does it need to happen for you to think it hurts?

        Until you get to the rung on OWL where alcohol is permitted it's best to find something else to do on Friday nights. Good luck to you.

          Well, you could just say it's not a good idea, not get on your high horses and be rude! This site is meant to be for info and support not to make people feel stupid!

          Carol wasn't rude but you two were, so thanks alot.

          What i mean is if your body burns alcohol for 12 hours once a week I don't mind that, i just don't want to come out of ketosis and have to start from scratch! simple question.

          so georgina all this "fix" "need", why all the inverted commas? do you always try and belittle people, i have an extremely high powered job and like to unwind a little. don't bother replying i won't be back on here. witch.

            Welcome to ADBB! I am glad to hear you are doing well so far. I know something will be said about this, but I am going to say it anyways. I wouldn't recommend a few vodkas, but if needed you might consider a lower carb drink. I don't know the carb content of vodka, but just saying some people need things like that to wind down after a hard day and I can completely understand that. I wish you the best on your journey to a better lifestyle and looking the way you want. Looking forward to hearing about your success!

              Thanks, well vodka, gin white rum etc have absolutely no carbs in at all, so I will have 1 later with ice, thank you for being kind and understanding, I don't expect to lose lots and lots of weight as I don't really have loads to lose, but 5lb would be nice in the first 2 weeks xxx (i think my goal weight i first put in is a bit stupid lol as i'm 5'9 so i'm going for 154lb finish instead x

                Are drinking, smoking or eating chocolate the only ways to "unwind" that work for you?

                What about watching a movie, reading, listening to some music, taking a warm bath (with bubbles and all that jazz... but no alcohol)?

                What i mean is if your body burns alcohol for 12 hours once a week I don't mind that, i just don't want to come out of ketosis and have to start from scratch!
                While the body is burning alcohol, you will not be in ketosis.

                It's also more difficult to make good food choices when you drink... especially if you drink enough alcohol for the body to need 12 hours to burn it!

                Alcohol will also hit you harder than it did when you were not eating low carb.

                  I like to have a glass of wine several times a week. I cut back on it first by diluting white wine with sugar free lemonade, but then after a week or so I became much less interested in alcohol.
                  Maybe you could just cut back at first-- maybe dilute the vodka with some club soda or some other no-calorie mixer and see how it goes.

                    It won't hurt you, if you only do it, say once a week. And if you are active, doing exercise, etc. and especially if you are dancing while drinking vodka, you'll burn the alcohol off quickly and enter ketosis the next day. Just make sure to mix the vodka with nothing containing sugar / carbs. Believe me, I'm not into alcohol because it has been a problem, off and on with me, through my life.

                    I went through a 'binge' the last few months because I had a retinal detachment and couldn't work out, I lost my semester (I'm a computational, physical chemist) and simply could not read, use the computer, etc. until the laser surgery healed.

                    Although I followed the low carb diet, I lost a tremendous amount of muscle mass, and my weight went from about 189.5 lb (I'm 5' 11" tall) to 210 lb. I started a clean induction 5 days ago and have lost about 8 lb. Most of it is water weight, but counting my calories on Fitday, I'm sure I've lost about 2 lb fat thermodynamically.

                    Tomorrow, I will hit the weights again, and probably triple my calories but that's another story.

                    We all need to relax, and if you hit a bar or club and drink a few, you will be okay.

                    My only recommendation is have a designated driver.

                      Thank you everyone for contributing to the thread. Always fun to see a good discussion in Spotlight

                      For everyone who wants to give advice: Remember we are here to give supprt to those who want to follow Atkins 2002. This our mission statement. And we expect everyone who wants to guide newbies to uphold this as best they can. Atkins 2002 (and all Atkins books) are very clear on this issue. Alcohol is not allowed on induction. This is the advice all newbies should be given on this board.

                          Raina says she couldn't have said this better, but I'm not so sure. Seems to me like this response is just as rude if not more so. Are you looking for help from enemies? Perhaps a copy of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" to unwind after a hard week. Good luck on Graciebabes' Diet Revolution

                            Raina, on day 2 you cheated with rice and peanut butter, and you were told that cheating once makes cheating again easier... and it would be best for you if you followed the Rules of Induction.

                            Is that what you found "rude"?

                              I couldnt drink alcohol, because the next day, i am always craving junk food. like every time. and i cant stop at 2 drinks. hehehe. I use to be a once a week, yeehaw, lets get sloshed kinda gal, but the after effects sucked, all hungry the next day, tired lethargic. not good in my case anyways.

                              this is day 2, for me. my problem is i start late, hate breakfasts and dont start eating anything til around noon. but then i stay up late, so i guess it works itself out.

                              nites are hard, i dont get to bed til around 2am. for gods sake, dont watch cooking shows!, reality cooking show or any type of cooking shows, ...
