Hi,
I am new to the boards here. I am a 38 yr old nurse and mom to 3 wonderful kids. I tried atkins once before, several yrs ago. I lost 75 lbs and was doing well until I fell off the wagon and just couldn't seem to get back on track. I have since gained all that weight back plus about 25 more lbs
. Still, I have been fortunate in that I have never had any health problems until recently when I began feeling tired and run down all the time. I went to see my doc and of course lots of tests were done. Come to find out, the only things wrong with me are that I'm overweight(obviously, I already knew that), iron deficient, and what really bothered me was that my blood pressure was high. I've never had high blood pressure so this is new to me. And even though my blood pressure was only 136/92, my doctor felt it was important for me to go ahead and start taking antihypertensive medication because of my family history of heart disease. I wasn't happy to hear this but I understand why he feels I need the medication. I got the Rx filled. It sat on the dresser for a week before I could bring myself to take it. I have been taking it for about 3 wks now but have decided I need to do more than just taking medication. I need to get this weight off. I started Atkins on Monday and have lost 3 lbs. Of course, I know that was water weight. In fact, I spent much of the day on Tuesday in the bathroom peeing. Geez...who knew I could pee so much? Anyway, the first day was terrible as I had all my usual cravings. The second day wasn't as bad(other than running to the bathroom) because I was at work and was really busy. Yesterday was AWFUL. Full blown induction flu had set in. The headache had started the day before and was terrible yesterday. I took tylenol yesterday morning and that didn't help so at lunchtime I took some aleve which didn't work either. Then I took some motrin and still no relief. My head was killing me by the time I got home from work. I came home, ate my dinner, got the kids put to bed and then I went to bed. Fortunately, I didn't have to work today so after I got the kids off to school, I went back to bed for awhile. I am feeling better today(no headache) so hopefully the worst is over. I am looking forward to the day when I realize that I no longer have the cravings and have to remind myself to eat. I know that day will come-and should be coming soon. More than anything, I am looking forward to becoming a healthier me
