Hi, my name is Connie and I started Atkins for the second time on 23 Mar 2010. My first attempt was short in 2004 and I didn't stick to induction. I'm confident this time around will be different. I'm married to a Marine and currently live on Camp Pendleton. I have a 21yr old son in college and a 16yr old step-daughter who resides with her mother's family. In Feb 09 my 16yr old committed suicide, therefore I was placed on antidepressants that assisted in my weight gain. This year I decide to try and put my life back together starting with my health.

Welcome Connie! I am new as well; I will be starting on Monday.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. My best friend's brother committed suicide when he was 18, and I remember clearly the emotions and dynamic in her family afterwards.

I hope that making positive changes in your health will help things.

Also - I have been on antidepressants before, and can sympathize with the weight gain. Cypralex did it for me. I switched to Wellbutrin and I stopped gaining weight. My doctor initially didn't believe that it was the antidepressant that did it - but once I switched and the weight gain stopped he believed. I hope you didn't have that problem!

          Connie, welcome to the site.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your child. That is a pain that will never go away but hopefully in time it will lessen.
I also stress eat, and due to meds, I have a hard time in getting the weight off. I was put on an antidepressant about 6 years ago after my 22 y/o son attempted suicide. I am the one that found him and did CPR on him until the EMT arrived. I am thankful that he is still here, but the pain is there and the fear that it will happen again and I will not be there this time. I almost lost him again this past December, but it was not an intentional overdose. He tooks medication along with the meds that the hospital was giving him for an infection. The RT found him at 2 in the morning already turning blue. He called at 4 in the morning to tell me what happen. of course he denies taking anything. I drove the 200 miles that morning.

focusing.... I have been on this site for several years, and at times i disappear, but I always come back. like you and everybody else, we need to work on our on health issues. I want to be around a long time from my son and daughter and my grandchildren. Plus I am tired of feeling like a nursing home patient with all the meds i am taking.
I am glad you are here!!!
