  • Hey guys, newbie first day oh my gaaaa..

Hi all, Name is Mimi, everyone calls me Meems, but someone already took that name, so consider me Meemers

No kids, just two fuzzy freaks who i love more than life.

Went on an anti depressant 7 months ago, and gained 25 pounds 'like that'. Go figure, I was actually more depressed about the weight gain, crappy pills.... Off all stupid pills now, and today is my 1st day and my breath is terrible , cheese is not my buddy, such a gross taste that stuff , think i did everything right today. we shall see. Feel great though, because i included 30 minutes of treadmill as well.

    Welcome to ADBB!

You definitely don't need to eat cheese if you don't like it.

What vegetables did you have today?

Are you reading Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002)?

      Hi G,

I had a big bowl of iceberg lettuce garden salad, and a dill and cucumber creamy dip.

..I also just ate a small piece of pre cooked chicken and a mozzarella stick before going to bed. oops. i guess thats not aloud on this diet like most huh?..couldnt help it. lol.

I hit 1100 calories but dropped 200 for the treadmill.

so about 900 , is that okay?

I would love to know if its a bad thing to eat a small snack before bed.??

and i actually dont mind the mozzarella sticks. much better cheese and tastes cleaner than cheddar.

How many net carbs was that? How many net carbs came from vegetables alone?

I also just ate a small piece of pre cooked chicken
What were the ingredients in this? Pre-cooked chicken usually has sugar (e.g., dextrose) and/or starch added to it.

Eating before bed is fine, as long as you eat because you are hungry, not because you have a nighttime eating habit.

I would strongly encourage you to get the book and read it.

At 1100 calories, you are undereating. Continuing to do this will slow down your metabolism and not give your body the nutrients it needs... consequently making weight loss more difficult.

i actually dont mind the mozzarella sticks. much better cheese and tastes cleaner than cheddar.
You can have cheddar, too, if you want.

Just keep in mind that cheese is limited to 3-4 oz per day.

Re: Hey guys, newbie first day oh my gaaaa..

Okay Drill Sergeant G, lol, i kinda like it now, enjoy it while it lasts.

Okay the salad was the one in a bag and it was mainly chunks of lettuce. the dip i checked to be sure there was no sugar or carbs, same for the chicken , unfortunately this pre cooked, chicken did have 1 sugar and 1 carb per half cup, so i dont eat alot of it. its not pre processed garbage though, it is fresh or as fresh as can be in plastic, hard to explain., lillydale or something.

Lets see, i had a piece of pre cooked bacon, it also said no sugar or carbs.

i'm always checking for sugars and carbs but nothing i've ever noticed says 'NET CARBS' on it.

cheddar tastes horrid, but i like the mozarrella so i'm sticking with that.

although Renee's cucumber dill dressing has no carbs or sugar, it definitely was used to much yesterday, i think i used about 4 tbsp .

as for the calories, wow, thats low, i figured that was too high? mind you i didnt add the bedtime snack, but nice to know i can eat a bit more.

hows that? am i missing anything?

0H YAH, i forgot to mention, i actually only had 14 carbs. out of 20. weee

and thanks for replying this is really helping me.

            Hi Meems!

Reading the book is very helpful, too! Although I have only read the new book that was released last month. This board is based on the 2002 book, which I hope to get a copy of soon.

Good luck with your journey...it's so fun to make positive changes!

How many net carbs of lettuce did you have?

What else was in it, other than chunks of lettuce?

You should also eat vegetables other than lettuce, for your diet to be nutritionally sound. Besides, half of your daily net carbs should come from Induction vegetables, and lettuce is very low in net carbs.

the dip i checked to be sure there was no sugar or carbs
If the ingredients have carbs, the dip will have carbs... and since it's a dill and cucumber dip, and all vegetables and spices have carbs, the carbs cannot be zero.

American labels are a bit misleading when it comes to nutritional information. If the grams of carbohydrate per serving are less than 0.5, they can (and usually will) be rounded down to zero.

Of course, if you eat more than one serving, the carbs will add up.

same for the chicken , unfortunately this pre cooked, chicken did have 1 sugar and 1 carb per half cup, so i dont eat alot of it.
Why don't you cook your own chicken instead? It's really quick... and at least you know what's in it.

Lets see, i had a piece of pre cooked bacon, it also said no sugar or carbs.
It's important to check the list of ingredients, not only the numbers on the nutritional label. That will tell you if there is some sugar added to the food... since that is the one we should avoid.

Also, there are many names for sugar:

Sugar on Ingredient Labels - Different Words that Mean Sugar

i'm always checking for sugars and carbs but nothing i've ever noticed says 'NET CARBS' on it.
Net carbs are total carbs minus dietary fiber. That's what we count on Atkins, if you are following any plan after 2002.

However, as I've said, American labels are not very accurate. You might want to use FitDay or the USDA database to calculate your net carbs.

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

although Renee's cucumber dill dressing has no carbs or sugar
                What are the ingredients?

as for the calories, wow, thats low, i figured that was too high?
Atkins is not a low calorie diet. In fact, you can eat about 250-300 calories more than on a high carbohydrate diet and still lose weight. This is the so-called "metabolic advantage".

Also, undereating will do you no good... it will only slow your down and (likely) create vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

0H YAH, i forgot to mention, i actually only had 14 carbs. out of 20.
Were those net carbs or total carbs?

In general, the closer you are to 20 net carbs, the better nutrition you get from your menu. If you choose vegetables more nutritious than lettuce, it will be easier to get in all your veggie net carbs.

This thread has examples of how to get most of your daily net carbs from Induction vegetables:

The e-books of DANDR 2002 that I've seen are not complete... there is at least one chapter missing... plus the recipes.

actually i'm going to get off this board and just do this myself. No offence, but i didnt sign up for the brow beating' feeling i've been getting since i registered. This just feels like i'm being pushed too hard, and georgina really needs to chill out. i like googling much better, you dont feel like your in the army. you moderators really need to step back and stop pushing people away. i've read enough posts in here, to definitely not want to stay.
