  • 24-Year Old School Teacher Beginning This Journey

I began my Atkins journey a week ago on March 27, 2010. I began at a whopping 306lbs. At only 24 years of age and 5 feet 4 inches talls, this is devastating. I am hypertensive and take medicine daily for my high blood pressure for the past 3 years now. There is a significant family history of hypertension and diabetes.

I am miserable in my own skin...so self-conscious. At this point, this is a matter of life and death for me. This is more than an attempt to look better or buy smaller clothes. As a school teacher, I also want to set a better example for my students.

I will weigh in for my first update in a week. Rather than obsess about the scale, I've decided to wait until the two-week mark before weighing again.

I am hoping that there are tons of other dedicated people out there who will walk with me on this journey. I have a whole lot of life ahead of me, and I am working now to improve the quality of that life. I can't wait to do the little things again like play basketball and have a renewed sense of confidence and self esteem.

    Welcome.
Lovely introduction. You really spelled it out why this is important to you. Come back here often and read it so you remember it. Motivation can sometimes be hard for us and food is used for so many purposes so I find it useful to write down my own motivation and remind myself why the things I have decided to do about food is more important that just eating what looks good.

We are here for support. So post often and help others too. That is how we win the race. Good luck to you.
