  • Hello! (Intro Post)

Hi all - I am here looking into the Atkins Diet as due to some sudden food allergies my diet has been reduced to something very similar by default. The only things that give me no reactions are meats and veggies, and since I need to defeat candida and get rid of close to 100 pounds, I thought it only made sense to make it work for me.

Since I stripped down my diet last week I lost ten pounds. However this week I have stalled out completely and will be searching the boards for a way to get things moving again.

    Welcome to ADBB!

Are you following the Anti-yeast guidelines in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

A stall, according to DANDR, is no weight loss nor inches lost for 4 weeks, so all that's happened to you in the last week is a "pause", which is quite natural. 10 pounds in 1 week is a lot, so I'm sure your body is figuring out what's going on.

If you want to post a typical menu, with quantities and net carbs, we can take a look.

Hi, thanks for offering to help!

I am not following the anti-yeast - the last time I did Atkins was in the early 90's, and I did not stay on it as this is what happened, in addition to it "slowing down the works" (more like a standstill, forget slow...) and making me have the opposite problem the first week.

I also got scared off from people who were telling me that it would damage my kidney's. Since then I had someone reassure me that it would not damage my kidney's (an Atkin's dieter for many years) and frankly, I don't have a choice. My body has decided this is all it will take. So I wanted to get re-familiar with Atkin's as that is the way things seem to be going.

A sample diet for me would be:

Breakfast: 5-7 strips of bacon, no sugar added (or, no sugar STATED, anyway...)

Lunch: 1 and a 1/2 pieces of sausage (thick, like the size of a banana) with no sugar added (again, see above).

Dinner: A steak or 1.5 hamburger patties with a medium salad with greens and carrots

Any snacks are usually bites of the same as I ate that day.

I also drink at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water a day.
      -----------------------------------------------------------------
I do not drink anything but water and herbal teas, sometimes I add truvia.
I don't eat any cheese or deal with any milk products at all.
I don't do any sugar, unless a manufacturer sneaks it in and doesn't list it.
      I don't eat eggs.
I don't eat canned tuna (or canned anything anymore).
I am allergic to milk, eggs, lacto-anything, soy-anything, tomatoes, black beans, wheat, white flour, and lately fruit has been giving me reactions as well as peanuts/almonds...

I'm still learning all that causes reactions but this is what I know now....vinegar, as well. It's either vinegar or garlic, not sure which at this point.

Hope this gives a better picture of things. Thanks again!

Carrots are not allowed on Induction. On this board, we go by the book: Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) '02. There are sticky posts on top of the forums that explain the basic rules and contain the list of foods acceptable for induction - these are a good place to start, until you can read the book.

OK I do not know anything about the Candida diet - so I am commenting on this from an Atkins perspective.
Here we follow Atkins 2002 which has specific rules (It also has info on Candida)

So from an Atkins point of view
Breakfast looks OK - perhaps a bit too salty? I think Atkins says to stay away from cured stuff on Canadida. Sugar also has other names like syrup and dextrose. Look for those as well. Don't you want something else to eat. A few veggies maybe?

No veggies for lunch is not very Atkins like food. ?Try to sautee some with your sausages in some oil or have a salad or something. You are not getting nutrients just eating processed meats like this.

Supper - well not processed YES. You need to try and get more not processed stuff in - especially if you are dealing with allergies. I hope you make these yourself from scratch. Or they have only meat in them. I don't know what a medium salad is. But a bit of greens is just way below the amount of veggies we should eat on Atkins. Carrots are not allowed on induction.

          I hope that helps.
And don't worry so much about a bit of halt in your second week. We all have one around there and then it will keep going again. So hang in there.

Hope you get those allergies under control.

Yes it is VERY helpful to know that a pause in week 2 is normal. Thinking it is not working and that's that (that is what happened the first time) is frustrating. That, in addition to other described symptoms, is what made me throw my book out (back then).

Until I get a new book I will be surfing the stickies.

              Thank you so much.

You also need a lot more vegetables in your menu.

                      Hi,

Yes, I am familiar with all the names of sugar thanks to years of other diets, wish isn't to say a refresher isn't good.

I say "not stated" because it's been my experience that, due to my allergy sensitivities, I know something is in a food that is not listed in the ingredients. I find this happening more with low-budget knock offs, and anything that lists "spices" without specifying the spices are warnings to me now. I figure if that happens with other ingredients, doing ti with sugar would not surprise me. Since then, I have also read in different yeast books that this is often the case, as well. So now I tend to be suspicious of everything, especially if there's no more weight loss, or anything that is odd.

Remember, you can be doing everything perfectly, and still not lose. It's just the way it is.

Yes I do need more vegetables. Oh, the torture! (I hate them. Deeply. I can tolerate them more raw but generally they make me nauseous -NOT from allergies...LOL!) I need to force myself to eat more of them and leave the carrots out.

you can do everything perfect and not lose? Is that addressed in the book? What are the reasons they give? I it's in the forums, I'll search for it.
