  • starting today!

hi, everyone i have been struggling with my weight since having a baby 20 months ago and previous to that stopping smoking! i lost weight for my wedding last May(although didn't get to were i wanted) anyway i lost weight by seriously reducing calories.. never do that again...as its all back on and anyway it makes me miserable and unable to concentrate which isn't good for work!

Anyway i tired Atkins many years ago so thought i would try it again as heard there's a newer version! my book arrives tomorrow and recipe book next week but i decided to start today... hoping i dont mess up to much and any guidance would be great ...thanks in advance

    Welcome, Lis!

What new book are you talking about? The New Atkins for a New You?

At ADBB, we are following the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution.

          Re: starting today!

There is Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution (1972), but I imagine you didn't get that one!

Then there are 3 editions of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution... one from 1992, one from 1999 and one from 2002.

These were written by Dr. Atkins... who died in 2003.

There was a new book that came out in 2007, written by Stuart Trager and Colette Heimowitz.

And then there is a new one published this year by Dr. Eric Westman, Dr. Stephen Phinney and Dr. Jeff Volek.

The plans are similar, but they are not the same. What is acceptable in the 2002 plan might not have been acceptable in the 1972 plan... the Acceptable Foods List for Induction differ a bit... the Rules of Induction are also a little different... and so is the structure of Ongoing Weight Loss.

            Yes, that's the newest one.

            will it not work?
            It will work.

We are simply following a different book at ADBB (we've been doing so for years), so that we don't confuse members with advice from different books.

I wouldn't call it better or worse...

Some people prefer the 2002 plan... some people prefer the 2010 plan. You can definitely be successful on any of them.

The important thing is to focus on eating whole foods -- vegetables, unprocessed sources of protein and healthy fats (no trans fats) -- and drink plenty of water.

or is it just that you are used to it?
At ADBB, you can say we are just used to the 2002 plan.
