      Re: I'm back

Good luck to you, Edgefan. My husband and I went to the store for the weeks supply of groceries, and the poor guy is so confused. He's still trying to remember, "no fruits" yet! And no milk. And no bread, not even whole wheat. And no... LOL But I got some sausage (don't want to use too much but I love it with eggs on weekends), some bacon and eggs, pork tenderloins, cheese...all the thing I was having to avoid. Seems weird, all that stuff and you loose weight. But ground beef patties smothered in swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms are back!!! YUM.

As for vegies, try green beans, lettuce is always good, do you like spinach? Try raw broccoli in ranch. Grilled zuchinni. Asparagas? Like the very good advise said, what's on the acceptable foods list for induction you like? Just remember, DO NOT CHEAT! It's only two weeks of induction. Break your addictions and never give up and never give in. Words I need to tell myself every morning for the next two weeks. We CAN do it, Edge...we CAN.

        Hey Bykerdruid,

I would have to modify your mantra...Never give up, never give in...for me it is Never give up, even if you sometimes give in. For me it is better to forgive myself for slipping than to take a more rigid approach and give up altogether. I know some people won't agree with that, but hey, like Bon Jovi says, It's my life!!!
        Take care and good luck!

OK, I have to ask this to, after looking at some of the recipe's on Linda's low carb menu...Is the Carbalose flour and the devinci no carb syrup allowed on induction?

The flour isn't... it contains wheat flour.

The syrup is fine. Sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day.

A good idea would be to starve your sweet tooth during Induction. Don't look up dessert recipes.

It's also not "no carb". While the carbs are very small, the flavorings do add some.

                    Re: I'm back

We've tried to come up with a list of foods to get at the store tomorrow.

                    So far its;
                    eggs
                    cheese
meats (chicken, pork chops, steaks, hamburger, bacon, sausage)
                    green beans
                    broccoli
                    cauliflower
                    salad
salad dressing (ranch and blue cheese GOTTA LOVE you can have regular)
                    green & red peppers
                    onions
sour cream for>>>(taco salad without seasoning or shell)
                    pork rinds for snacks
                    pepperoni slices for snacks

                    How does it look?
                    Any other suggestions?

                      Re: I'm back

I'm not a fan of pepperoni or pork rinds ... either to eat myself or to suggest to people.

The pepperoni is very very processed, has sugar (dextrose), and lots of sodium. We should limit our consumption of processed meats/foods.

The pork rinds ... well, they're crunchy, and they're fat ... but other than that I don't get it. They don't really provide any nutrition.

You can have seasoning with your taco salad ... just make it yourself.

                          Re: I'm back

One without added sugar (or dextrose).

If you're buying bulk sausage, a good brand is Bob Evans (which you should be able to get in Ohio!).

As to link sausage that you microwave ... it's impossible to get without sugar ... so you have to decide if that's a deal breaker for you.

True about forgiving yourself when you give in. We can take any motto and frame it to our own needs. Mine needs to be "never give in". I have to take a hard*** approach with myself. But if I do give in, I don't let it derail me. I beat myself up for a bit then vow to do better. My biggest problem is if I give in once, it's way harder to resist temptation the next time. We all need to discover our own limits and our own weaknesses and set ourselves up for success knowing those and doing all we can to avoid crossing that line.

Thanks for the "Good luck", guekjian. I'll need all the luck I can get, along with all the determination I know I can muster! Happy low carbing!

The great thing is, you can do pizza on Atkins and it's okay, as long as you don't do a crust. Now, one way you could do it, but it's pretty iffy, is to take a frozen pizza and add all kinds of toppings but only eat the toppings when it's done. I feed my dog the crust. However, if you want to be a "die-hard-do-it-by-the-book-Atkins-purist" (and that's a pretty good thing to be)...make a pizza in a skillet. Add all the ingredients you would on a normal pizza sans crust. Be careful with the tomato sauce if you use any. Lots of those have sugars and you need to be very VERY mindful of those hidden carbs, ESPECIALLY on Induction. I don't even bother with a tomato base for skillet pizza. I just add meats, mushrooms, diced green and red peppers, olives and after it's pretty well cooked together, sprinkle with cheese and let sit until the cheese starts to melt. Slide it off onto a plate and dig in!

Oh, and Edge...welcome to DAY ONE! Maybe we should start a group who starts today? Perhaps post on the Induction Thread as the 412ers? LOL Definately, you need to do roll call every morning. Nothing like starting your day with a vow to committment. HERE WE GO!!!!!
