  • Trying again

Hi all. My name is Carly and I live in Houston Tx. I started Atkins last year and joined the forum but got quickly derailed due to work and family issues but I am back and on my 2nd day of induction. I had a full thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy in June of 08 and have had a lot of issues with getting my meds and metabolism straightened out. It has been frustrating to say the least but I am re-committed and thankful to have this place to come learn and share with others. The success stories and before/after pics are truly inspiring. I hope by this time next week to have some sort of loss to brag about. I did get a bit of purple on the Ketostix today so I guess that is a good sign. I had done Atkins before in the past a long time ago and did well on it but am older now and hoping for success.

Does anyone know if there is an Atkins or carb counter application for the smart phones?

    Welcome to ADBB!

    Which smartphone do you have?

It does mean that you were spilling excess ketones. It doesn't mean that you're doing Atkins properly, or that you'll lose weight. It could mean you're dehydrated. They're really not that reliable for anything ...

If you want to read an article about them:

I'm sure that next week will show something positive for you!

Thanks for the info on the ketostix...I will make sure I am getting enough fluids so as not to get dehydrated. So far the no caffeine is giving me a headache.

The phone I have is the Motorola Cliq with the Android features.

Ah ... sorry I can help with apps for that ... I only know iPhone or iPod Touch apps.

You should cut down on caffeine slowly ... as to avoid the headaches. You might also want to wait a few days ... sometimes detoxing from sugar and caffeine at the same time is a lot for the body to process!

Do you think switching from coffee to tea for a few days would be okay?

Yes ... there's less caffeine in tea, so it should help you wean off it.

You can also start mixing decaf in with your regular coffee ... that will help cut down on the caffeine, too.

Just remember to count the carbs ... and neither tea nor coffee count as water ... and you should have an extra 8 ounces of water for every 8 ounces of tea/coffee.
