  • New to Atkins

My name is Elizabeth. I have always had some weight issues. My currrent weight is the heaviest I have ever been. I am determined to do something about it. I bought the Atkins Diet book and am on day 3 of induction. I am pleasantly surprised that I am not hungry. Today was a true test. My six year old step son was over and brought those powdered sugar donouts along with him. When I saw them, I did crave carbs, but did not give into temtation. This is huge progress for me. I was a carb junkie. I hope that this program will work for me. I am currently a size 16-18 and my goal is a size 8.
I want to make sure I am doing this correctly. Day one I had scrambled eggs, I used a little olive oil in the pan. For lunch I had a salad with 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper, a pouch of tuna and 2 tblespoons of ranch dressing. For supper I had a steak and steamed veggies. I drank water all day about 90 ounces.
Day two I had an omlet 2 eggs bell pepper onion with cheese used olive oil. Lunch Was a salad with turkey bell pepper cucumber. Supper was chicken baked in the oven and steamed veggies. 90 ounces of water and a cup of hot geen tea without any sugar or cream
Day three I had 4 strips of bacon, and 1 egg scrambled. Salad the same as day before for lunch. Had a snack of turkey and 1 cheese slice. Supper had a burger without any bread and sauteed cabbage. Drank the 90 ounces of water.

    Welcome to ADBB!

    >>I bought the Atkins Diet book>>

What's the name? What's followed here is Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

    What are "steamed vegetables" exactly?

The New Atkins for a New You is the name of the book. The steamed veggies were broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini.

Thanks. Just so you know, the book followed here is the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Some of the things are different in the New Atkins for a New You ... such as counting carbs, rather than cups. Some vegetables on the Induction food list in your book do not appear as "vegetables" in DANDR (they're special category foods, e.g., avocado, olives).

There's nothing wrong with your book, just know that some of the advice you see here that's different is based on a different book.

Ok, thank you so much for your help. Maybe this is why I had a little confusion. Hopefully my food choices have been correct. The success stories have been very encouraging to me. I am also doing a 30 minute aroebic workout daily. Is there are forum where exercise is discussed?

It is looking pretty good. If you are losing fine that is great. I was not sure if you were getting in enough fat some of the days so make sure you add some oil, butter, mayo or dressing in places they fit.
            Good job on that water.

I just bought a copy of DANDR. I am going to follow that book. I think that the program will work better for me. Also I prefer this forum.
