  • New Here!

Hi Everyone! My name is Laurie. I have started the Atkins diet today!

As I was researching the net I came across your forum and thought it was a great tool to have in my pocket. I am the kind of dieter that does not have much self control or motivation so all the support I can get is greatly appreciated!! I really think this time will be different though. This diet allows so many things that I love, like cheese (I know I can't abuse it. Cheese has plenty of calories.), but the idea that I can still have some and not be cheating is awesome!

I am starting this diet at 30 pounds over the "normal" weight range for a 5'4" woman with medium build. I am currently at 170lbs. and my goal weight is 135lbs. That is what I weighed when I got married. Every time I look at our wedding picture on the wall and I dream of the day I will look and feel like that again!

My weight gain began after marriage of course, but mostly with having my 3 children. I just gained a little more each time and it also became harder to lose the baby weight with each one. I remember thinking after the first one that I needed to lose weight, but now when I look back at a picture when my son was at 6 months and I was holding him, I think that I looked pretty good. It is funny how with every few pounds you gain you look back at think each time how much better you looked just ten pounds ago. It is so easy to let it just keep slipping little by little until you look in the mirror one day and finally realize that you are looking "fat" not just a little heavier! Has anyone else had this experience?

Sorry I have written a book. It is kind of nice to just sit here and type about the subject. I think I might just start a journal of my journey here. Would that annoy anyone? I would love to know I can be totally truthful since you are all strangers, but yet also know my mistakes and goals will be read by many people. It might help me stay on track! Thanks for listening!

    Re: New Here!

Journal away. There is a place for it in the forums, someone will link it I'm sure. Welcome to ADBB. I had the same experience, the pounds crept up on me, and I wasn't so upset about being 205 lbs, but when I hit 225, and I really started to look husky, I knew it was time to do something. Good for you for getting motivated and starting to change your life for the better.

      Welcome to the ADBB, Laurie!

I know how the pounds can sneak up on you and it's good that you are tackling it now before it gets worse. I look forward to seeing your journal!

Atkins is about the carbs, not the calories.
