  • Hello

New to the board, but not to the diet. I successfully lost about 35lbs ten years ago. I'm baaack. This time, the tab is about 50. That's what I get for not really taking care & heeding the importance of maintaining good eating habits.

I've spend two weeks on induction & haven't lost anything. I do feel a lot better, clothes are a bit looser and there's no craving for sweets but the numbers aren't moving. I'm post-meno, not taking any HRT. Joined fitday & made the log public. I don't have the activity log figured out yet, but I am moderately active, with spurts of whirling dervish mode. I'm recovering from a few broken bones (1limb+), so I'm not as apt to be gung-ho the way I used to be in terms of getting out there and hammering away at things.

Mistakes I believe I've made this time around are not eating enough (which cuts into that moving around bit - I plain run out of gas) & eating too many pork rinds for snacks. And forgetting almonds are not an induction food.

Has anyone else experienced feeling like teh stupid as an artifact of the diet? I read somewhere that the brain derives its energy exclusively from glucose. I would like to use that as an excuse sometime

I have yet to get an add-on ticker to agree with me, so I'll add it sooner or later.

Anyway, I'm determined about this process, so you will be seeing me around. Thanks for what looks like a great board.!

If you want to share the link to your fitday I can have a look. But it sounds like you are finding out where to improve. Often people who go at it again kind have forgotten how important it is to follow the rules on induction and some of those old "bad" habits sneak in.

I am not sure you can use the glucose "excuse" Our body makes plenty of glucose from the protein. That is why people who live on a fat/protein diet long time of the year such as people in the artic do OK.

Do you have the 2002 book. It is the one we stick to here.

    Welcome and good luck.

      Welcome to ADBB!

Losing inches is an indicator of fat loss, regardless of what the scale says.

If you want to share the link with us, we could take a look at what you've been eating.

There's a lot of crap written online. You should not feel "stupid" on Atkins.

However, hypoglycemia (from not eating enough) can cause mental confusion and difficulties to concentrate.

          Re: Hello

Thanks Georgiana & Liv. Teh stupid is likely due not eating enough. Though there is probably some element of natural effect at play..

I haven't found my copy of the book yet. I know the first one I picked up was pre-'02. Know I bought another, probably in '05, but I haven't unpacked from moving yet. Mumbles to self: I'm sure it's around here somewhere. I've just been following what I remembered. And checking online, after failure to lose weight by the numbers.

Every time I've tried to sign into the board-realted ticker, enter my username & PW, it kicks me out. Since it is a board sponsored (?) widget, I was thinking that I should automatically link over. I changed my password in an effort to get it working, but no go.

Should I put my fitday link in my profile/sig?

As far as the ticker goes. I don't know. If G or someone does not show up with some more advice - post a question in the technical section.

As for the fitday. You can add it in the sig or just in a post right here.

Fitday: RosalindJ - free online diet and fitness journal

I haven't made the chicken for a late lunch yet. I'm getting ready to do that & portion snacks - cheese & some pork rinds.

Forgot to add. I'm also using ketostix as a tell. Been throwing ketones (high med to low large). So something is working.

                Re: Hello

Vegetables. You need vegetables. We try to get 3 cups of vegetables from the list in Atkins book. I'll make you a link.

The chicken you entered says coated. You do not want to eat coated chicken so you may have to change that.

Good job on water - keep drinking.

                  Re: Hello

Thanks for the nudge. I have vegetables - caesar salad mix & spinach. I've read the numbers on those & will mix appropriately.

The chicken breast is boneless/skinless. The fitday menu pick was being twitchy, and I will get a grip on it as I become more familiar with its use.

The water - I don't know how anyone goes without. This phase of the diet makes for a lot of thirst.

Are you trying to log in using your ADBB account info? That will not work. You need a new account for the ticker.

Thanks, but when I click there from the link bar found above every page here, there is no option for creating a new account. What am I missing?

ETA - Ahh. The "create a ticker" is an ever-so-slighly highlighted as a link.
