    Hello,

I am on Day 5 induction and I have been hungry, hungry, hungry! I'm not sure that I should actually count it as Day 5 though, because I have been identifying mistakes I've been making along the way.

Anyway, finding this forum is like hitting the lottery! I'm so glad to have found you all!

    Re: New

Dr Atkins had to lose weight around 1970 but he could stand the thought of being hungry so he decided to try cutting out carbs but eating liberally from fats and protein. And guess what it worked. He ate lots of food, did not feel hungry and lost weight.
    That is what we do.

So if you are hungry, hungry, hungry. Then EAT. EAT EAT

Hope things go well. Glad you found us.

Yes, you should count it as Day 5. Learning Atkins is a process.

What mistakes have you been making?

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

I realized I was eating too much cheese and sour cream, for starters.

Then I realized that even though foods in my kitchen said zero carbs, there is sugar listed in the ingredient list.

Then I thought my beef jerky sticks were zero carb, but they're not.

And I read on atkins.com, I think, that Atkins Advantage Bars are good for induction. It wasn't until I learned how to figure out net carbs that I realized that the math didn't add up and I went searching on the internet. That search is how I found you all and I learned that Atkins sold his name before he died and that the Atkins bars are really not good for you. (my words)

Also, I didn't realize certain veggies had so many carbs. We had an appetizer at Easter that I ate the leftovers of liberally last week until I realized that those artichoke bottoms were 1 carb each! Of no consequence to seasoned Atkins-fans but add that to all the other things I was doing wrong...haha

I guess even with my many mistakes, (some of which I'm probably forgetting), I came down enough on my carbs to at least tame my appetite and cravings a bit. I'm doing okay today (Day 7) with only minor cravings and less hunger.

This morning I started writing down everything I eat before I eat it, with the net carb count. That is a major success for me. woohoo!

Wow you are really doing your homework! Keep doing that, plus talking things through here and taking the advice given (lots of it, sometimes the "tough love" kind), and following your diet to the T and you will do GREAT!

The Atkins website will give you different information than you'll get here - they are in the business of making money ... we are not in business but want to help each other get healthy ... big difference.

Have you read the book? Are you drinking a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily? Both of these things will help you in the long run.

                      Much luck to you!

Hi Carole! Thank you! I haven't read the book entirely, just in parts. I'll try to read the whole thing. I drink alot of fluids, alot of tea and water, sometimes with a squirt of lemon. Yes, about the site differences, I am so glad I found this site!

Tea isn't water, and since it also acts as a diuretic, you should drink an extra glass of water for every 8 ounces of tea you have.

                            Only water is water.

Is that also true for decaf tea?
