Hello! My name is Amber and I'm doing Atkins for the first time. I started induction two days ago. I'm hoping to learn how to stay at one healthy weight! I gain and lose without realizing it until someone tells me. I'm 24 years old and 4'11.
In high school I was in the 120s and my mom and I would go on crash diets together. At the time I didn't know anything about BMI,BMR, or nutrition. It was all based on looks. In college I rapidly lost weight from stress and walking, and was about 89lbs at one point (remember I'm short!). I felt very weak and went to the doctor, who advised me to gain weight and told me nutrition basics, but my family complimented my looks, which confused me quite a bit.
On the doctor's advice I gained weight, putting me in the 110-115 range, which felt pretty good, but my family seemed to think I was becoming too heavy. I think it was just muscle from walking and swimming. (Of course, my bf claims to not notice any difference over this whole time!)
I am now in graduate school and have gained quite a bit over the past year because I no longer walk and spend a lot of time studying. I'm now 140ish. Of course seeing family is not very fun at this weight!
I have started exercising for the past month but I noticed that I just eat more and don't lose. I ride my bike about 1.5 hours each weekday to commute and jump rope to take breaks while studying. On the weekends I do pilates for a couple hours and go swimming if I can.
I'm finding induction very difficult because I love fruit and bread! Also I've been waking up at night hungry for some reason. Hopefully this will get the weight loss going though!
