Re: Fell off the Wagon - Desperately Need Help

Oh, and by the way, atkinsgal.... you say the shakes are not a meal replacement. Then what ARE they?

      >>I really don't think it would be very wise to go into this 1/2 way when I don't have full stock of the proper induction foods in my house. Do you??>>

You don't have to eat junk though. You can reduce the empty carbs you're eating so that Induction isn't a shock to your system. You can make wise choices.

      >>you say the shakes are not a meal replacement. Then what ARE they?>>

It's not just me who says that ... even ANI says that.

They can be a snack or something after a work out.

You already know that you get hungry if you have one for breakfast.

Wise choices will be exactly what I intend to do. I have already started on this.

Thank you for clarifying what you and others say about the shakes. I've always known it wasn't, literally, a meal replacement but it sure hits the spot when I don't (or didn't 4 years ago) have time to make breakfast, even on induction.

Have leftovers. Make egg casserole. Make something ahead of time so all you have to do is reheat it. That will "hit the spot", too.

Yummy, sounds good. Egg casserole, hmm. Never made one before. Would love to know how.

I think it is appropriate now to ask this, as well, regarding the shakes. Since Atkins developed this drink for a purpose, can you tell me what the exact purpose is for them and at what Atkins stages they are allowed?

Please check out lindas low carb recipes!!! I am new to Atkins and have been following for just 3 weeks, but that web site has inspired me. The variety of foods is amazing. I feel like I am living like a queen, not deprived- finding so many options is amazing.... My DH has lost 17 lbs and I have lost 11!! I am praying that I can stay committed. I have been looking for meals for next week, planning is non negotiable. I have never felt so in control, energized and motivated, I keep praying this continues!!! gOOD LUCK.

Re: Fell off the Wagon - Desperately Need Help

You are most welcome, Vicky. That's why we're here!

I know it can be hard to motivate enough to take that first step. But it has to be someday or else it'll be never. That's why I start things like diets on Mondays. I have a starting point backed by the whole week of routine to help me stick with it. And for some reason, this time I feel confident. I don't know why, perhaps because I've "been through this before" and lost 50 pounds in 6 months, so I KNOW it works. And with the added incentive of multiple health problems as a result of a bad diet, I know it HAS to be done. So, I set a day and here I am, just as confident that I'll do as well tomorrow as I did today. Just set your mind to it, and do it.
                Drink more water!

Re: Fell off the Wagon - Desperately Need Help

Congratulations Maura. While the first melt off is wonderful and some people keep a fairly steady drop for extended periods, don't let any slow downs or stalls derail you. Hopefully you'll be one of those people like I was, I had like 6 solid months of steady loss, never hit one of those horrible month long stalls. But just know that it isn't unusual and nothing to be discouraged by. The fact that you feel like you're eating "like a queen", only helps because you start thinking...."what diet?"

Wow, bykerdruid, 50 lbs in 6 months?? That's terrific!! I lost 30 in 5 months, 4 years ago and I thought THAT was something special! *lol* But 50 lbs... that's great!

As far as having the mindset, I don't think I'm quite full-speed-ahead ready yet. I think, once I get all the groceries I need, as well as throw out everything out that is bad from my cupboards and fridge, is when I'll start to get really focused and just do it. Groceries are a few days away yet... but it's approaching. Can hardly wait to shop!

I don't think I should wait, though, until the following Monday to start even though this is a great idea. I may need to start mid week since I don't foresee myself sitting here with all new foods I buy in a couple of days and then having to wait until the following Monday before starting this program. Oh well, anytime will be good as long as ambition and motivation are in the works!

Maura, that's wonderful news. I am delighted for you! It is because I remember well these feelings of excitement while watching the inches disappear and the weight falling off. It is like heaven!

I will definitely check out Linda's low carb recipes for sure! In fact, I will be spending part of my day tomorrow (before shopping on Tuesday) to see all of what I can make on induction.

Again though, congrats on your wonderful progress!!!
