  • New "girl" from Devon in UK

    Hello
I'm Ann and live in Devon, the south west of England, UK. Although I am not technically overweight, I am a carb junky and spend a lot of time running to try and keep my weight under control. I am a 46 year old married mother of 9 year old twin girls, and don't have time to keep running on average 60 miles per week (plus x-biking, pump and power walking!). I therefore thought I'd give the New Atkins a try. As I had given up white carbs for quite a few month so after starting the diet last monday, the side effects have not been too bad. I have managed to keep running and will have done 40 miles by the end of this week (ie, tomorrow). Initially, my running was much slower and arduous but today I did 8 miles and near normal time and felt great. So things are looking up.

I am not weighing myself (I get too obsessed) so am judging progress by clothes and how I feel and look. After only 6 days, I can already feel a difference.

Will be investigating the US site for advice and ideas regularly!

    Love, Ann

Welcome Ann. Glad you decided to join us.
I run too and love it but yes exercise takes time. For me though it is such a help on my mood that my familiy virtually order me to go out for exercise because they know I will be easier to live with

I know exactly what you mean. Years ago I gave up smoking but the anxiety and frustration I experience when I can't get my endorphin fix from
running is far greater than nicotine withdrawal!

Hi Ann! Welcome to our international ADBB family

I am glad you have decided to see how Atkins works for you. Congratulations on your progress so far

Have you got a copy of the 'new' book, yet? Here we are still following the older version Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) published in USA 2002/UK 2003 so there are some things that are a little different from the brand spanking new 'NANY/New Atkins for a New You' but the basics are the same, eating healthy whole fresh foods including vegetables.

If you have not yet bought a book (or even if you have bought NANY) take a look around your local charity shops as they usually have copies of DANDR for well under a pound on the shelves, so we can be talking about the same chapters etc.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
