Well, I guess that I need to introduce myself...at least Tom told me to, right??
I had "done" Atkins about 8 years ago, and had some great success with it, but I didn't make it a way of life, and soon after the weight came off I started to go back to that ole way of eating. Soon the weight came back on, and for the past 7 years I have struggled with health issues.
About 3 years ago I was diagnosed with DM2. Heart breaking, but not earth shattering. I attempted to get my blood glucose down, and did fine for awhile, and then life stepped in. I had been working night shift, and recently had the placement of 2 foster children who are severe MR. And since I am a RN, why would I have to go the doctor....so I kept putting it off, thinking that I could kick this on my own. Well, I wasn't!! (go-figure) Then in March of this year (after 11 months of putting it off), I HAD to go the doctor, and after some blood work, which revealed my horrible eating habits, it was either get your bllod glucose under control or you have to take insulin. What a kicker for myself.
I am a Mom to 6 children, and LOVE IT!!! But I wasn't going to be long on this earth if I didn't start taking care of myself. What an eye-opener.
So, needless to say March 14, 2010, I started with Induction. It brought done my fasting blood sugar quite quickly, and I started to feel so much better. I still have about 80 #s to lose, but this time, I am determined to make it a WOE. (Although you have to admit, that it is REALLY nice to see that scale creep down!!)
I am planning on staying on Induction for about 6 months. Then move slowly into OWL.
I am ao thankful to have found this site! I have been looking for something online that would be encouraging and supportive. It is helpful to see all the challenges going on. I would love to be able to jump into a few of them!
Caroline
P.S. If somone could show me how to start a journal that would be much appreciated!
