  • New to board

Hi everyone,I am new to this site. I have been on atkins since January 30th and have lost 16 lbs. I have been stalled as far as the scale goes but feel i am still losing slowly. I have been eating the bars which even though they say are appropriate for phase I, I believe they may be the culprit. This diet does work and you can make it a lifestyle. My goal is to lose 30 more lbs and hopefully by june 15th.

    Welcome to ADBB!

You should 1) give up the bars and 2) move to OWL. Many find that moving to OWL works ... since it's the phase where you lose your weight!

Welcome! You are probably right about the bars. Good on you for figuring that out and taking action.

        Re: New to board

Thanks for the advice. What is the best way to move to OWL. I dont really keep a good track of exact carb count. I know i am under 20 grams with what I eat. I occasionally have some nuts, ranch dressing so I dont know really know what to eat to get into OWL because I have done phase I for so long. any ideas. I will try no bars and ssee what happens. Yesterday I had 2 fried eggs and 4 pieces of bacon, a bar for a snack. lunch was rotisserie chicken and 1/2-1 c cauliflower with sourcream/dill dip and cucumbers. Dinner consisted of spam with cheese on top fried and 1/4 c broccoli and 5 bread and butter chips sugar free 1 carb. Any thing in here that is causing me to stahl. I also drink probably 3 cups of coffee a day with real cream and splenda but I always have since day 1. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, nuts are an OWL rung 3 food.

If you are doing 3 cups of veggies now, add 5 carbs worth on top & you are doing OWL Rung 1 (& skip the nuts). Count your carbs for a few typical days so that you know where you are at for moving to the next rung.

I would also recommend skipping the bars - 2 reasons:
          1) they do stall people
          2) they are a processed food - a big part of this WOE is learning not to rely on pre-packaged processed type foods.

Watch the Ranch dressing...some of them have a lot of sugar in them, some have less - just check the list of ingredients & the nutritional panel. Also, store-made rotisserie chickens often have a sugary seasoning on them...so check the ingredients there too...

          Just some suggestions Best wishes,

I would suggest using Fitday to count your carbs more closely. It's really easy to use and you'd be suprised to find that you might not be eating all of the net carbs you need to be. At least I did!

              Re: New to board

              Welcome here.
Glad you have lost so many pounds.

My suggestion would be to be a little bit hard on yourself and actually count the carbs. Make sure that you are getting enough veggies in and maybe skip some of the frankenfoods if you are stalling.
And then move to OWL my adding more veggies.

Hope you have a good day

                Re: New to board

thank you all for the tips. I appreciate you taking the time to answer. This board is awesome. So not having enough veggies will actually stall you then? Sometimes I jsut eat a lot of protein for the day and hardly any veggies at all. I figured if I just ate mostly protien and lil carbs as in veggies it would kick start me back into gear. I do ketosticks in the morning. yesterday I had moderate ketones and today I have lower end of moderate. I have been drinking a ton of water too. Usually 10 to 12 glasses a day. Thanks again for the advice you all are giving me. some days I even skip a meal because Im stressed and just eat a bar.

                  >>So not having enough veggies will actually stall you then?>>

It can. It's not nutritionally sound either.

                  >>Sometimes I jsut eat a lot of protein for the day and hardly any veggies at all.>>

                  That's not how Atkins works.

                  >>some days I even skip a meal because Im stressed and just eat a bar.>>

                  That's not good.

As to the color of the sticks ... don't worry about the color. They're not reliable.
