  • New Gal on Atkins nearly day 4!

    Hi Everyone

    Name is Maria and I'm from Ireland. Just started the diet and I seem to be doing ok. Decided to weigh myself every four weeks as not to put too much pressure on myself, anyone else do this? Felt a little faint in a store today, ate and drank plenty of fluids, is this normal?

    Greetings again and looking forward to exploring this board and getting to know people.

    Hi and welcome to Atkins! I hope you can stick with that once every four weeks weigh in. I'm a scale-aholic and it's hard for me to stay off the scales. And scales are not always an Atkinsers best friend. Always remember, if you aren't loosing pounds, you could very easily be loosing inches.

    As for the weakness and stuff, you're probably going through Induction Flu. It is very normal. Think of it as your body going through carb/sugar withdrawal. Your body wants carbs and sugar to burn but it isn't getting any. Once it switches to fat burning, you'll know and that flu will go away and you should end up with a surge of energy. Not all people do so don't worry if you don't.

    The best advise I can give is to keep coming to this board for motivation and advise. And if you really want this to work, I know a lot of people hear it and some get upset with it, but it is the absolute truth...if your not doing it by the book, you're not doing Atkins.

    Stay strong sister...it works.

        Welcome to the board.. There are alot of wonderful and extremely helpful people here.. Stick to it because from what I have seen it certainly works..

            I'm sticking to the plan like glue. It was a warm day and although I am drinking the water, I'm putting it down to perhaps I needed more water!!

                I had some poached eggs for breakfast. Dranks at least 8 pints of water throughout the day. I had some steamed chicken with cracked black pepper and grated cheese for lunch and this evening I had fresh salmon fillets. I bought measuring cups this evening so I can eat some veggies tomorrow or add some salad.

                  Hi and welcome --

                  It looks like you definately aren't eating enough because you aren't getting your vegetables in. Make sure you are eating the proper amount of vegetables everyday -- I eat them first to make sure I've eaten enough, then I have my protein.

                  Many people drink half their weight in pure water daily -- it helps to get all the nasties out of your system and helps hydrate your body.

                    As has been noted, there's not enough vegetables, which means you're not getting anywhere near close to the 20 net carbs you should be aiming for on Induction. That can make one feel dizzy or faint.

                      Also add some fat. Looks like you are not getting enough food there period. You have to eat

                        If you continue to get dizzy have your blood pressure taken. It may be dropping too low.

                            Thank you all for the replies. I have added veggies to my diet. I had a great look at induction recipes last night and there are some fantastic recipes in there.
                            My bp is fine, thanks for the tip anyway!
