    Re: My First Day!!

You should be eating 2 cups of veggies from the 1st part of the list and 1 cup from the 2nd part of the acceptable food list everyday -- celery is fine to eat, and tomatoes are also (I don't eat them because the sweet taste makes me want more sweets so I've learned to leave them alone).

The body aches and headaches you were experiencing were probably what we call induction flu - it's in the book so you can read up about it. Drinking pure water will help alleviate them also.

As far as caving when your friend is eating junk -- make sure you have something handy that is allowed and eat that in place of the junk. I take deli deluxe cheese slices (regular cheese doesn't work) and cut them into strips or small pieces, put them on parchment paper and microwave them for 1 minute - they make a great little cheese cracker snack with no guilt! Also you can microwave a few pepperoni slices (watch the ingredients for sugar & other non-Atkins stuff) and eat them for a nice legal snack. My husband and mother both eat crap in front of me all the time so on those rare occasions that I want something I eat these things, or have some deli meat rolled up with cream cheese or without the cream cheese, string cheese, cut up veggies, deviled eggs -- it's all good, satisfies my want and is perfectly legal - I just make sure I have the carbs to be able to do it before I eat. But I always drink a couple glasses of water and wait awhile to see if I'm really hungry or if the water quenches what I was needing.

Good luck - read the book, it's so much easier to follow the plan with the knowledge instead of just listening to others or browsing here and there. And net carbs are what we count - if you aren't counting net carbs you could be seriously under eating, which can cause trouble loosing.

      Re: My First Day!!

No, I honestly just didn't want to list it all! Tomorrow I will be having bacon and eggs. I have also done lamb, salmon, and of course chicken I mix about 1/2 cup of romaine with baby spinach also. The veggies, I am a little safe on. I make sure I only have a few cucumber slices, baby tomatoes, and asparagus. I just want to be safe with the carbs. Be sure not to go over. And so far, I have been doing great.

AtkinsGal, what's your advice on PB. I have been also wanting peanuts and peanut butter SO bad. After induction, will I will be able to maybe put some celery and PB together Any other advice off of the top of your head would be great! You know your stuff!!

        Re: My First Day!!

        PS. Thanks Carole!

As for the water, I think I'm right up to par, but what would it hurt to increase it a wee bit more. I'm going to the market tomorrow. I am thinking of buying more veggies (maybe some small eggplants) and going to slice and dice them so they are more prepared.

Thank you so much for the advice also. Atkins is amazing, and other than tonight (for whatever cause) I haven't had to deal with ANY craving, I have been full. Also, my energy has increased, my mind is sharp, my face is clearing up, I am thinking better( thank goodness, final exam week) and I am LESS stressed. In fact, I am not experiencing any highs or lows and I am rather calm. Any events that have popped into my daily day --that would have bothered me in the past-- haven't even phased me.

I suppose it is also good that I am writing this, sort of reinforcement and keeping myself updated with how I am feeling. I figured this stream could sort of be used for that.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated Carole

I am going to re-read and scan through Atkins book again, what a brilliant man. I am once again, so thankful for being recommended to the Atkins diet to overcome my terrible over eating habits of sweets and carbs. Haven't really had the --real-- urge to eat them.. IT's such a blessing

          Re: My First Day!!

MmMmm... Bacon & eggs for breakfast! Who could EVER complain about that

Lunch is looking like celery sticks with spinach dip & steamed broccoli with baked chicken.

Also, before I went to the market this morning, I had a hard boiled egg because I was yet hungry, but I wanted to have satisfaction in my tummy so that I wouldn't become hungry in the market and cave to frankenfoods. Atkins is AWEEEESOME. I literally walked by all the old junk and didn't even think twice or look twice.

I'm going out for my friend's 21st tonight after work. I told her that I wasn't going to drink for personal reason, totally was okay! Plus, I can be the DD. I'm curious if it would be okay if I had a glass of Club Soda with lime. Any suggestions? Or stick to my water with a lemon/lime slice? Appreciate it everyone! Day Six is AWESOME. No headache, my body is So Happy.

                Club soda is fine.

As is plain sparkling water or Perrier.

I thought about starting a blog, but I feel like I already have so much information and advice on this thread. IT sort of started the beginning of my Journey with Atkins... Most of the updates are short and sweet. But thanks for the heads up! Hope you had a great weekend

                    Re: My First Day!!

Today is Day Nine... I suppose, I kind of lost track of the days because Atkins is simply awesome!

Anyhow, I really wanted to show another aspect of the PROS with Atkins. I am a pretty good test taker (college student) and we are in our Finals Week. Being on the Atkins diet (Induction period, to be exact) I have been able to think EXTREMELY clearly. In fact, I am not stressed what so ever and I just found out that I ACED a Law Final Exam.

I seriously could not be more thankful for Atkins ... I am so impressed with my great vision now (no longer blurry at night) and also for the ability to really think clear and retain MORE information.

Now, I know some people may think I am crazy, but if you look at my exam scores from throughout the Spring Semester, the scores are extremely higher (last week, for example) of eating the right foods for the Atkins Induction period.

Not eating all of the carbs/ sugars/ and junk has literally made such an impact on my brain (literally), body, and skin complexion (in recovery from lots of blemishes).

Atkins is really a blessing and not only am I still taking one day at a time, but the results and the impact of no temptations or cravings is making Atkins SO MUCH EASIER. I hope that people in need do personal researching and make decisions of doing Atkins, for it is life changing. [I don't want to preach to anyone, unless they ask how/ what I am doing in the difference they are seeing.]

                    xxos, Cheers!

                        Re: My First Day!!

You know what? I used to feel awful about 2 weeks out of each month right around my period, but since I've started Atkins, I barely noticed any mood swings or fatigue. I'm totally glad for this because I was starting to feel like this is what old feels like!

@SunshineGirl- thank you, thank you! I check this site probably twice a day and I would LOVE to keep in touch with you! We have a lot in common, and I promise after the headaches and body aches are gone, Induction isn't half bad! I literally turned down birthday cake at work on Sunday and I DIDN'T feel deprived or upset. I was HAPPPPPPY and I knew I wasn't hungry nor did I want the darn cake, lol.

@CalicoPrairie- I think I could agree with you, although I have yet to have a visit from TOM on Induction. As for anxiety and stress levels at work and during school. well those are definitely gone. They've hit the road and they're not coming back

I'm a bartender at an upscale restaurant and I used to always be swamped because of the stress levels, anxiety, mood swings, business, and friggin' bloating... NOW I am hitting the shakers -left & right- knockin' the drinks and making $$$.

(You can tell I'm happy about this one )
