  • Newbie & already sick of it!

    Hya everyone,

Would just like to say hay as I'm completely new to Atkins & this board. Just started the Introduction 14-day plan yesterday & already not going to well. I woke up this morning feeling very sick & after a few minutes I sat up in bed (which was a bad idea), next thing I know, I'm running to the bathroom for my dear life & threw up. I HATE being sick, my worst illness. Can anyone help me figure out why I was sick this morning?

All I can think of Is that my body isn't used to so much protein & let's face it, sausage & bacon & eggs for breakfast? Not exactly the best for us all is it? But if it works, it works (: .. I just need to know what to do? I've been sick twice now, I haven't eaten anything this morning & it's already 11am. I can't face eating meat or greasy bacon right now, just thinking about it is making my stomach turn!!

Any idea's? Would it hurt to have maybe something my body is used to but healthy like melon, fruit or a bowl of cereal? Will this affect my weight loss?
    On the upside though .. I've lost 2lbs since starting yesterday woo, go me! (;

Anyone else get sick? Carley x

Your body may be reacting to the fact tht you are 112 pounds but still trying to lose weight. Maybe it is time for you to review things. You are writing about real food like it is poison. Those are the things I eat every day and I love them. I am not sure that is a healthy attitude to have. We do not get sick from food unless there is bacteria in the stuff you were cooking and we did not prepare them well.

I'd have to say your sickness is likely a fluke. Maybe you were coming down with something prior to starting your new way of eating.

Do you mind if I ask why you want to be 90 pounds? That sounds like a VERY unhealthy weight.... unless you're 9. Like Liv mentioned, your body may be trying to tell you something.

        Atkins isn't "so much protein".

Have you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

        How tall are you?

Are you actually 112 kilos and not pounds?

I wondered if it was kilo's also and not pounds.

Re: Newbie & already sick of it!

I'm not meaning to be rude, but I asked for your opinion on me being sick, not on my weight loss goal or current weight. What my goals are & what I do is my own business so please don't tell me what to do, thanks. And as for apparently writing about hating the food, I don't have a problem with it, if you read my message properly you would of seen I was SICK, not sick of the food!!

I'm 5"2, I have had a baby & my tummy is measuring 33in, is it so bad to want to lose a little weight? It is why I'm on here...
Can you just give advice & not treat me like I'm an idiot! Much appreciated.

Re: Newbie & already sick of it!

Nobody was doing that TwilightMummy, it's just that nobody wants to give bunk advice to anyone else and you didn't have your information ready available (like your height, I mean). There's nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight after a baby--not at all--as long as its a healthy weight, kwim? Your weight is already so low, which is why I asked. I was figuring you were on the petite side, but wanted to make sure.

As for your being sick, someone did address that and said that it was probably a fluke. I'm not sure about that, as I've never gotten sick on Atkins, but I do hear that there are plenty of people who experience varying degrees of what is called "Atkins flu", depending upon how badly ones body needs to detox from carbs. If you have been eating healthy due to your pregnancy, that might not be an issue, but only you know that.

I am sorry you feel stepped on, but having been around this board for a few weeks, I can assure you that most everyone is very kind and encouraging.

Re: Newbie & already sick of it!

It does sound like a fluke. I've never been sick like that although headaches are common on Atkins induction.

I think it's ok that you are trying to lose a little more weight and this is the best way to learn how carbs affect you and learn to eat more healthy for life.

Re: Newbie & already sick of it!

Vomiting has nothing to do with Atkins. If you are sick, you should see your doctor.

Thank you *CalicoPrairie* .. yes I am on the petite side but have a tummy like I'm still pregnant & I have big thighs. Sorry if it seemed like I was snapping, just I've heard all the, "you don't need to lose weight, your fine!" quote before, & I believe you have to be truly happy with yourself before you can love others, I just want to be happy with my body again. Thanks for the advice though everyone, I'm taking a break from Atkins over the weekend & starting again on Monday, woke up feeling really rough this morning & if me being sick has nothing to do with Atkins *Georgiana*, then why was I sick the 2nd day of the diet & then felt fine that same afternoon? I'm not ill, it's not a bug, It was the diet because my body isn't used to so much meat & I snacked to get my 20g a day too, which I'm not used to. Before the diet I was pretty healthy, ate fruit all the time, chocolate now & then but not a lot.
                      Anyway, thanks for the posts.

I know what you mean. I have pretty much decided I'm not telling my friends what my target weight is because I don't really want the comments of "WHAT? You're already tiny!" 150 is a nice-looking weight on me, but I'd like a little buffer zone, so I figured mid-range was a decent goal.

Sorry you were sick, and I hope you come back again when you get started Monday.
