  • new to induction

Hi all, I am new to this site but I have been reading it for a while and i love all the success stories and encouragements. I have started doing Atkins 3 days ago. I have never done any diet in my life. i am 32 years old, married with one child ( 2 years old). I have been overweight all my life, even looking back old pictures when i was 1 and 2 years old. I want to change for the better. i want to lose around 20 kilos (43 pound). My height is 169cm (5"6"). Current weight 90 kilo (198 pound)

My problem since starting this diet is cooking. I am cooking 2 dishes every day one for me and one for my husband and child. I would very much appreciate any advise how to incorporate the diet with my family eating.

Second issue, i am from the UK but currently living in Germany. Will move back to UK in 3 months time. But till then, i need to find out where I can get multivitamins and minerals with out iron and sugar free mayo. i don't speak the language, so anyone doing Atkins in Germany your help is very much appreciated.

    Welcome to ADBB!

You shouldn't have to cook 2 meals ... the whole family should be able to eat the main course and the vegetables/salad. You can add more vegetables or a starch for your husband.

      Re: new to induction

I cook meals for my family who are not on Atkins everyday. What I've learned to do is start with meat - we all eat the same meat prepared the same way. Then I find a vegetable we all can eat - and/or a salad. Many of the recipes on Linda's site taste the same (or better) than the original recipes -- mock-a-foni and cheese tastes better than my regular mac & cheese. The stuffed green peppers are delicious. You can add something to their plates you don't eat (rice, beans, potatoes, etc) but you shouldn't have to fix 2 completely different meals. Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

      Good luck.

        Welcome Hela!

They've already given you the answer to your question regarding meals. Really meals should be no different except you will not be eating the carb portion. That is, if you normally ate meat, potato and veggie!

The board is really a great wealth of information. The recipe section is great for whatever you might be looking for. For some help in the getting organized area, look for a thread by the member "brook" - she noted what she does every Sunday to get ready for the week - all in about 1-2 hours!

I look forward to hearing more from you!

          Re: new to induction

Thanks a lot for the quick replies. Thanks Thinsoon for the thread link. I really can sue some organizational help. Re my meal preparation issue, It is only since I came to Germany ,a year ago, that i started to learn new things because I have been unable to find ethnic ingredients and food items here. Now a days, we usually eat spaghetti and pasta with meat sauce or vegetable sauce. Sometimes fish with mashed potatoes and lots of salads. Unfurtunatley, all the pasta are not too kind for my weight.

I have been looking on Linda's site, as suggested by imagood1, I can see there are lots of casseroles I can cook for the whole family.

Thanks all again for the support and i hope to speak to you soon with great results.

            Re: new to induction

I just wanted to stop by and say hello and welcome to ADBB! You will find so much information and support here.

I do the same as everyone above stated....(although DH is on Atkins too, so he eats what I give him) I give the kids the basic "core" meal, and then add things on from there.

hope you are having a great day!
