Hi I just joined this site! really excited! I started Atkins January 13th of 2009 weighing 230lbs at 5"2 and now I am 155!!! I have followed Atkins pretty good! I didn't really do the add more carbs thing owl I just added 15 more carbs and continued to lose weight! And I was okay with that! I only have 15 more pounds to go!! And I have buckled down and knocked off 15 carbs to kick it into gear!

    Congratulations!

Is there any reason you didn't add the carbs the way you're supposed to?

Not really, I just added 15 and i could eat alot more adding that 15 plus I read alot and everything I read said on average most people can eat I think around 30 to 40 and still lose, so I went with 35 and I continued to lose just way slower around 5 pounds a month. I reached my goal long ago but just kept going with owl and now I only want to lose 15 more but I am really happy at this weight and I have added more carbs, so I am backing down towards induction so I can kick start it!

My advice is NEVER get upset and quit if you step on the scale and have gained even 4 lbs! Our bodies can retain so much water it isn't funny! Just tell yourself it is the water! and it might take 2 or 3 days to come off! If you are doing atkins then it is for sure water! ALWAYS have stuff you can eat by you! So when you are hungry eat it right away! Coffee later in the game brought any cravings I had to a halt, plus one cup filled me up and I wasn't hungry forever! Have lots of Sugar free jello and when you want something that seems law breaking lol eat it with a dab of cool whip on it! There are fudge ice cream bars by carb smart that are fantastic!! YUMMY!!! So when you really need to have something eat one of those babies~! Plus at walmart in the drug store section they have Atkins almost like a baby ruth bars and peanut butter cups!! They are great to eat when you feel like having a sin or two!
And always remember it isn't a diet it is a way of life! YOu will soon find out how your body responds to certain foods! Watch your salt intake cause it will surely cause water gain! Also if you really really want to have something like at a bday party have it but only one serving size! or take a bite! I found myself wanting a piece of cake and taking a bite and then turning around and spitting it out because it wasn't worth it!

Most Important know your TRIGGERS! LIke for me a low carb fudge bar does nothing for my cravings but if I had a bowl of it then I would want nuts and cool whip and chocolate!! Ya know what I mean! I wish you the best and just hang in there!! it is so worth it! I will never eat like I use to again!!!

That's not how Induction should be used.

Have you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Wow, girl! This is so exciting! I do have one question, however. I have not had ANY craving for any of my normal "trigger" foods such as sweets like chocolate. My roommate tends to buy A LOT of the CRAP food. What on earth do I do when she goes grocery shopping? I haven't experienced a trigger but I am scarred she'll go and buy chocolate ice cream and eat it in front of me (not on purpose). Maybe i should hit the gym when she does this or leave the house?

Also, how do I add you to my friends list? I would love to keep in touch with you!! You seem like you are full of experience and positiveness

Cool Whip isn't ever Atkins friendly. It's a frankenfood ... the 2nd ingredient is sugar.

Well it worked for me! If it is a trigger for them then they would know to stay away! To me it was better than a piece of cake sitting in my house or the chips in my cupboard.

No I haven't read that book. I did induction by the book! Except If I was going bonkers and feeling left out of the food world I would eat some sugar free jello with some cool whip. To me it wasn't going to make me gain weight. I didn't want to quit or give up so when times were rough I had some of that! I was on induction for almost 3 months. It was better than quitting and giving up and having something far worse! Plus I never ate jello or cool whip all that much before so I knew i was safe to have one if i felt a hard craving coming on and had to have something sweet that is what I did! It prob isnt good for everyone but i knew it wasn't something that was going to throw me off track. Ya, it prob isn't for everyone and I wasn't saying go eat all that you want. Just gave her advice for me that worked!

It's not a matter of Cool Whip being a trigger.

It's not allowed, plain and simple.

That's the book that's used on this forum.

What book did you use then to do Induction?

                            >> never ate jello or cool whip all that much before so I knew i was safe to have one>>

Your book must never have discussed what foods to eat.

Cool Whip hasn't ever been allowed; it's never been "safe".

I didn't say that it did. I was just replying to something I was asked is all. In the real world at some point and time chances are you are going to brake! What is worse a piece of cake, soda, chips, junk food of all types or a thing of sugar free jello and a bit of cool whip? I guess take the cool whip off!
