Hey guys, My name is Jessica. I am 32 years old, I started induction 2 weeks ago. I did Atkins for 2 years faithfully in the past, and lost 60 lbs. Years went by, and last year I gave birth to my son. I gained a WOPPING 100lbs during pregnancy!! Yikes!! I had lost 60 of them in a year just by breastfeeding and working out. I now need to get off another 60, in that I was 20 lbs over weight when I conceived. I love Atkins because it is easy to do...you can eat out at restuarants, etc...etc. I am hoping to have as good of luck as I did last time. I also workout about 3-4 times a week, mostly cardio right now.

I started induction 2 weeks ago, lost 10 lbs. 1.5 weeks into it. But fell off the horse last saturday and drank LOTS OF WHISKEY AND DIET COKE. I gained a 4 lbs of fluid back, and now having a hard time getting back into Ketosis after 3 days of starting INDUCTION AGAIN. Any suggestions as to why my strips arent changing?? Ugg.

    Current weight: 235
    Goal weight: 180

    Nice to meet you all,

    Jessica

    Welcome to ADBB!!

Your strips might not be changing because the day of the week has a "y" in it. Seriously, they're not reliable. I wouldn't worry about them at all. If you don't turn them, it doesn't mean you're not "in ketosis". If you do turn them, it doesn't mean you're doing Atkins properly.

About the only thing they're reliable for is hand-eye coordination.

A more reliable gauge is what you're eating.

Did you stay on Atkins maintenance when you were pregnant?

Thanks for the advice, the more I read about the stix the more I understand!! I haven't put anything in my mouth that I shouldnt have other than that stupid liquor saturday night. So my diet should be fine. I do drink a bit more coffee than I should, but it doesnt lead to any cravings or anything. To answer your ?, I actually went off atkins in 02 ( had been on since 00), because I started having some random cardiac problems, and the cardiologist I was seeing at the time advised me to stop. I then started weight watchers and was taking a prescribed weight loss medication and lost 30 more lbs. Maintained for a few years, but then a few pounds slowly krept up. When I got pregnant I was on a normal diet, though had gained 20lbs over the course of a few years. I pretty much ate everything I saw when I was pregnant. I was very stressed, have a stressful job, and was alone. On top of all the cravings = not a good thing. So here I am....trying to get the remaining 60 off, and stay in this lifestyle for good. I have never tolerated sugars and carbs well, I start eating them, and cant stop. One thing I love about atkins, i dont really feel hungry....ever, and i dont crave anything really. Which is a good feeling for once!!

Are you counting the carbs in your coffee?

        >>actually went off atkins in 02 ( had been on since 00), because I started having some random cardiac problems, and the cardiologist I was seeing at the time advised me to stop.>>

Odd. Did you tell him you were eating whole, unprocessed foods, no sugar, no refined carbohydrates, heart healthy fats, lots of vegetables, low glycemic fruits?

        >>When I got pregnant I was on a normal diet,>>

        Atkins is normal.

You're reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002, right? You might have the 1999 book.

        Don't worry about the sticks!

thanks guys for the welcome. Im sorry, when i said NORMAL diet, I didnt mean that atkins wasnt normal. I wasn't ON ANY EATING plan. I was interested at the time in even caring. It was the one time in my life I didnt have to. Thus the 100 lbs. I will NEVER do that again to myself. Anyway, no I havent been counting the carbs in my coffee. I am counting the heavy cream I use in it though. I just bought the new book, and starting to read it. I am sure some things have changed. I lost 2 lbs today, so I must be doing something right

oh, I forgot to address your other ? about the cardiologist. At the time I was having chest pain, and had every test under the sun. They thought I had cardiomegaly, I was only 24 years old. My EKG was showing inverted T waves, which either signifies cardiac damage or imbalanced electrolytes. I am sure it was an electrolyte issue. But I didnt press him. I was very young, and scared. I was ready for a change also, so I was ok with trying something different. At this point in my life though, I look back and have decided Atkins was/is the best choice way of life for me. So that is why I am returning to the way of life. I do feel much better, in just 2 weeks. I don't anticipate any heart issues to come in the future. My labs are fabulous, and I work very closely with a cardiac surgeon, and he can answer any questions I have regarding the issue if any were to arise.

In retrospect, don't you think that eating well would be good for you and the baby?

                You will though, right?

The book that's followed here is the 2002 book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.

Gosh, i feel some serious judgement here. My baby is healthy as can be, and happy at that. The only I did wrong is retrospect was that I ate too much ( carbs ) and didnt work out enough. None of it had a negative consequence on my child, though it did me with all the weight to loose. Ive lost 70 as of today and I am proud of that. I am not going to even begin to defend my choices when I was pregnant. No one should judge others past eating habits especially during a difficult pregnancy, the important part is that I am here now. I AM READING the 2002 book, thank you for reminding me though.

I am getting a bad feeling from this website. Hmm. Maybe it isnt for me.

What happened in the past is in the past. No one is judging the past.

Sometimes things get posted ... and somebody else benefits. I know it's happened to me.

Good that you're reading the book!

                    Hope you stay.
