  • no weight loss at day 12 induction ??

    I am on day 12 induction, feeling great, not feeling deprived at all, I have gone on every diet imaginable, and without fail end up in the jar of peanut butter and bag of cookies by 11pm everynight because I was just plain starving.

    I feel lighter if this makes sense. I feel like I lost a few pounds, but I just weighed myself (3 times) just to make sure, and I didn't lose an ounce??? I measured myself last night, and didn't loose inches either??? My clothes fit the same too. I am not going to get discouraged, but I must admit that I am alittle disappointed. I am 39 yrs old female, 5 ft 9 174 pounds. Very muscular as I am an areorbics and yoga instructor (5 yoga classes a week) and only about 2 step classes. I am fairly fit, and really want to tone up and tighten up so a friend suggested Atkins. She is a lovely woman who lost 18 pounds in her first 2 weeks. She is probably 250 pounds, doesn't exercise, I know from what I read that it varies, but I would have liked to see 168 on that scale.
    Could it be my 2 cups of coffee with heavy cream and 2 splenda's each morning. That is my only spurlge. Should I drink just plain black coffee. I can not give coffee up completely.

    Welcome to ADBB!

    It would help us help you if you would post a typical day's eating, with quantities and net carbs.

    You are reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), right?

    Also, you shouldn't compare your weight loss to anyone else ... somebody is bound to be disappointed.

    This could be an issue ... though temporary. Your body might have trouble believe that you're going to stick with this "diet" ...

      Posting a menu is a good idea because maybe there are some ingredients in what you're eating that aren't allowed on induction. They sneak them into everything so we need to be careful. With your level of physical fitness, you should be burning calories but maybe you are eating too many, even if you are staying legal. Calories do count.

        Share your menu, what you drink and eat typically and maybe something will need to be tweaked.

          thanks for the quick reply. I have the 2002, and the new Atkins book, have not read them yet.

          I forgot to mention that I am a water drinker, I drink over a gallon a day.
          For breakfast, I have 3 eggs made with butter, and 3 slices bacon.
          lunch is a mixed green salad with grilled chicken olive oil, and some grated parm cheese. dinner is usually steak or grilled chicken with asparagus, or cauliflower and a small salad with Ken's creamy ceasar dressing. I snack twice a day on 4 oz of Boar's head low sodium turkey, sometimes 2-3 slices low sodium swiss chesse (this is what is quick to grab, otherwise I tend to not eat and then binge later at night).
          I don't weigh or measure anything, but I would say my portions are not oversized, or undersized. I do not feel starving. I am feeling totally satisfied for the first time ever.
          Like you said my body may be confused from years of crazy diets, bouts of bulimia (over a decade ago) I have had my share of yo-yoing. My lowest weight was 150 my highest was 201. I was a steady 162 for the past 3 years, and resently with stress, I would say the past year, my weight has gone into the 170's again. I refuse to go higher than this. Thank you!

            Your menu looked nice and clean. I would not be so careful and eat low sodium items on Atkins. We actually need some of the salt. Also take the time to check your veggies. Try to figure out if you are getting lost of veggie carbs in. It looks to me like you are very low in that area and we try to have lots of nutrients come from that source so it is important to check and keep an eye on them.

              In my opinion there must be something more than this going on, its very strange that after 12 days you have lost no weight. Are you drinking enough water? Maybe you using sauces that have hidden carbs?

              Seems weird.

                Why don't you try for a week ... and count your net carbs.

                Not knowing exactly could be part of the "problem".

                  NO, no sauces at all, that is why I feel like something is weird. And I drink at least a gallon of water a day. I am going to have to weigh and measure like someone suggested. Thank you everyone.

                    I read this string of comments and I feel like this is me exactly. I started Induction 5 weeks ago (this Sunday) and for the first 2 weeks was doing it wrong (according to some folks on here). I was drinking diet soda and I was eating too much cheese. After discussing some things on here, I decided to cut out the diet soda, the cheese AND all atkins products (I was drinking 1 vanilla shake a day as a quick thing to grab before class).

                    So, this Sunday will be the end of week 3 (of doing it correctly) and I have not lost any weight. Counting carbs made no difference. I did it for the first 2 weeks (of the "new" induction) and figured out how much I could eat, so now I just get a feel for what equals 20 carbs for the day. I'm thinking about quitting the diet this Sunday. I won't necessarily go out to ice cream immediately, but I am thinking of just introducing whole grains back into my diet.

                    What are everyone's thoughts? Why am I not losing weight? I'm basically the same as Nikki, 5'9" and currently weigh 174lbs (this is my normal weight that I have kept for the past 3 years with only a little fluctuating of 4lbs, whether I'm on a diet or not).

                    Help!!!

                      If you are not on Fit Day already then go ahead and sign up and post your meals up. In some cases you may need to drink more than a gallon of water (128 oz).

                      You may need to cut any processed meats and maybe cut all cheese. Or even go further and stop coffee (I know, don't remind me how hard it is, I can't do it either).

                      For both of you, don't quit. Sometimes it takes our bodies an adjustment to the eating before it will work with you. Your bodies may be fighting back, for now.

                      Make sure you read the book especially the areas it talks about weight loss resistance. There are things you can do ONLY if the other cuts don't work.

                      Keep us posted and I wish you the best success on Atkins.

                        hwhite, don't give up. I am willing to wait it out and see what happens. Like i said, I have never felt so satisfied at the end of the day. I am not stuffing my face at the end of the day, I am not starving myself, I do not feel deprived. I think something good will come of it. I hope you stick around too. I think my body is in shock from yrs of yo-yoing. I don't think it knows what to do, I never ever ate small frequent meals. I feel lighter, I feel calm, I am going to hang in there, do more research and see what happens. Good luck to you Hwhite.

                          nikkikatz If you have a very low percentage of body fat, due to your fitness level, losses on any "diet" will be slow and arduous. Especially if you weren't eating "junky" foods before. Would you say you have a high ratio of muscle to fat? Even if you don't loose weight or inches on Atkins, the health benefits are still worth it.

                            I so believe that the scale isn't exactly what we should base our healthy weight upon. I fully believe it depends on your body structure. You already stay active that is great. Your feeling better that is awesome. Don't dwell on the scale. I think that the scale is 1% of the goal. The most important part is how we feel. I think if you do what your doing and keep it clean you will lose weight. But, you already feel better and just think of this as the normal way to eat and don't think of it necessarily as only to lose weight. I can tell you that even though my goal says what it says I will probably feel like I am "normal for me" in about 20 lbs. I have a very large bone structure. I also have a lot of muscles underneath my flab LOL. So I think the scale doesn't tell the whole picture. Stay eating healthy, you'll never go wrong. Let the scale be a bonus but not the prize.                               So if you're at your normal weight, then what's to lose?

                              And if you're already at your normal weight, anything you might lose will be painfully slow.

                              It's net carbs though.
