  • One week anniversary on Atkins

I've been on Atkins for one week now and have been checking out these forums alot. I can't begin to say how helpful it's been finding all the answers to my questions just by searching the forums.

I have lost 12 pounds in one week since starting. Right now I'm fluctuating between 321-320 for the past 3 days. Hopefully this will not become a stall situation.

Is lifting 10lb dumbbells and doing reps with them considered good calorie burning exerice, or is that not going to get me anywhere?

Well I started a blog as well, so hope to see everyone around and best luck on all of your unique journeys.

Hi there welcome. I enjoyed your avatar!!
Glad you think this is helpful. It is nice to have a community.

Lifting is not a great calorie burning exercise. It is strengthening exercise (anaerobic) What you need for calories is aerobic - like walking. The best thing is to combine the two. Do some of this and some of that
And remember calories is not a focus on Atkins - just carbs.

Strength training with dumbbells is excellent exercise. When I started, I found it easier to do these types of workouts rather than cardio. And that gave me the confidence and encouragement to stick with exercising and ease into cardio. And quite honestly, when I started at 304#s, ANY movement was cardio so I think I got some cardio with lifting weights.

Congrats on completing your first week and the 12# loss!

        Thanks for the encouraging replies.

I'm mixing in a little walking any chance I get. I take stairs whenever possible instead of elevators. At home, I'll occasionally play a dancing game on my nintendo wii. That really gets you moving, works up a sweat, and is fun.

I'll continue with the weight training to regain some of the strength in my arms that I used to have.

          Hi Zamby
Your stats are very similar to mine in that I lost 12lbs in the first week and now seem to have slowed which is to be expected as 24lbs in 2 weeks would be way too fast.
Good luck with the weight loss and I will watch with interest to see how you proceed.

Re: One week anniversary on Atkins

Welcome and congrats on geting through your first week. Your weight loss may be more or less than others so don't worry about how much someone else lost, follow the plan the way it's written and you'll have the best results for your body. You won't loose as much as you did after the first week, so don't worry when the weight loss slows down, check your measurements to see if your body is catching up to the weight loss - inches lost may not always be where you want them first (my face never seems to get slimmer - and my rear end goes flat as a pancake too soon!! LOL).

Good luck to you. Have you started a journal? It's a great place to get things down (the good and the bad) and meet people going through the same thing you are. You'll be surprised how easy it is to meet people and get helpful advise along the way.

Yep I have a blog started on here. I won't get discouraged by smaller weight losses, as long as I continue to feel good. I'm down to 318 as of today, 15 pounds in 8 days. Important part, feeling good, with more energy.
