  • Hi My first week

Hi my name is Laura and I'm a carboholic. I do know that needs to stop so I can lose weight so I am here.

I started last Thursday w/o the web site or book, just on memories of my Dad doing this diet years ago. Since I couldn't remember all the rules I started with just protein but since I had a bday lunch for others three days in a row including my first day I added lettuce. I found this site last night and am happy to report that I ate no prohibited foods except a tablespoon of peanut butter every morning. I did stay within my carb limits, even with the peanut butter, so I am happy and I'm losing weight. On Thursday April 22 I was 160 pounds, ugh. I am 5'2 inches tall and about to be 45 years old in June.

Up until my early 30's I never weighed more than 121pds in my entire life. 121pds was my "fat" weight and I rarely was even that heavy. My average weight fluctuated between 116 and 118, and I was always trying to get to 115. In my "depression periods" I was as low as 104 and rarely more than 109. Today I would kill to be 121 again.

Because the depression times were getting more severe and chronic I began anti-depressants and my weight really increased a lot. Within in a year I was then in the high 130's and even hit 140. A few years later I became a Mom and my weight began to average 142-145 pounds.

At the ripe old age of 41 I then became pregnant. I gained 25 pounds while pregnant and lost approximately 15pds post pregnancy without much effort. It has been 2 years and 3 months since I gave birth and I decided last week that I needed to do a high protein low carb eating plan b/c nothing else was working.

So on Thursday April 22nd I began. After reading up on the three or four most known high protein low carb plans I decided that Atkins was the one for me. I have gone through the FAQs, printed my food lists and went shopping. Although it is only Sunday April 25th I have dropped 4 pounds, which is encouraging. I have a Barnes and Noble card burning a whole in my pocket and will purchase the 2002 Atkins book this week.

This is a tough way of eating but I know it works for me and that time is my friend. Just one day at a time.

        Re: Hi My first week

        Welcome!

Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything legal in your home. Linda's recipe site is very helpful with delicious recipes - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/. Your weight loss may be more or less than others so don't worry about how much someone else lost, follow the plan the way it's written and you'll have the best results for your body.

Eat foods listed on the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html, eating a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs” (carb minus fiber equal net carbs).

Also many people start a journal to keep track of themselves. It’s also a great place to meet new people or find old friends.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.
        Carole
