    Hi I'm Maureen,

I've used your site to begin induction, I'll be posting my journal of what exactly I've eaten on the journal site, I guess if the server gets unbusy enough, i've already posted on 14day induction site. Thank you all for helping me thus far. I'm 42, non drinker, non smoker, clean, female in a loving relationship with a supportive and loving family, decent job and financially stable. I've had some health problems and am recovering finally but have weight to lose as a result and love the leaning effect of atkins.
I've managed to create a signature so you'll see my starting and my goal there I guess. Today is day 7 of induction and I weighed in at 177.8 today.

I use the ketostix and while i don't weigh daily I do use the sticks each morning to see that i've not overdone it with the carbs or eaten something wrong for my body and metabolism. I've also ordered the vitamins from bariatric advantage. I read alot of this site to get going, thanks for all your help. I was limited to slow walking, and now am able to use the new bike I ordered (pedestrians watch out its been 20+yrs since I pedaled ).

Welcome Maureen -- how are you doing so far?

What helps me best is to plan your meals for a few days so I have everything legal in my home - and I don't overthink every meal. Linda's recipe site is very helpful with delicious recipes - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/. Your weight loss may be more or less than others so don't worry about how much someone else lost, follow the plan the way it's written and you'll have the best results for your body.

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily – more is better but at least 64 ounces. Take a vitamin w/o iron daily and exercise. Good luck on the bike - it's fun to get back in the swing of things with a bike.

The 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is our guideline here on the board - if you don't have a copy you really should get one and read it so you know the science behind the plan and how to follow it correctly - check the used section on www.amazon.com or www.half.com if you can't find a copy locally.

Eat foods listed on the acceptable food listhttp://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html - eating a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs” (carb minus fiber equal net carbs).

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.
      Carole

You can be in ketosis without changing the color of the sticks, so don't think you've done something wrong if the sticks don't change color. Changing the color is not necessary for weight loss or for gaining any of the other health benefits of Atkins.

          Re: New to these forums

Hi And thanks for all the constructive advice, I got my book today, i originally did atkins for 8yrs successfully starting around 1996 when i stopped smoking and my metabolism changed and i could not eat like a marine in basic training anymore.
I have a kinda of issue at the moment limiting what I can eat from the food list, an ulcer 1/3rd the size of my stomach, marginal, partially in my intestines. So.... sorry you asked how I'm doing yet? Just kidding, i'm eating omelets and successfully ate chicken yesterday, the ulcer is healing but I have to be careful of quite a few foods especially veggies, i'm actually craving them but i'm sticking to the items found on the list the doctors gave me and the list on the induction diet, I want a pickle so badly i'm ready to touch a cucumber inappropriately to get one...
The other slight hurdle is that i have a bladder the size of a pea, I had surgery as a child and so my bladder is tiny, drinking water is easy, getting to the bathroom often enough when I leave the house is a huge challenge, interrupts the bike rides continually but i'm managing. I have almost no time for a woman who isn't working, i still have to finish my food journal of the first week since I lost ten pounds in seven days i thought posting exactly what I did and ate might be helpful to someone else or even for myself if i hit a plateau. Anyway I'm off again, I drink smart water, its distilled with electrolytes, like gatorade but without the flavor or sugar, best thing for the body imo. bbs

Oh and I got an ab circle mini from hsn, it was free shipping, no tax $99 and ten minutes a day won't hurt since I carry most of my weight in my belly and have a bad back (supposedly strengthening your abdominal muscles will take some of the load off the lower back to prevent strain and help with pain) We'll see, I started my vitamins today and my pp is neon yellow, interesting :P
