  • Allow me to introduce myself

Hi guys, my name is Olga and I'm new to this board. I'm not even on Atkins yet, but pretty soon I'm going to be. I'm 198 right now, I want to be 160. I've never been on Atkins before, is it hard? )))

    Welcome to ADBB!

I don't find Atkins hard at all.

Are you reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Hi! ) Yes, I've been reading the book, I find it very interesting You know, all my life I thought that fat makes you fat... It's surprising what mass opinion does to people. My mom still thinks that if you eat butter or cheese you get fat from it, but not from the bread LOL Well, I'll definately give this diet a try.

          Hi Olga,

I am on day 1 of induction but I have done Atkins in the past and found it fairly easy. I just always gave up. I would recommend getting the book and following the induction phase (no cheating) for at least the 2 weeks required. Ask questions and seek support here when you need it. You'll hit your goal before you know it

Thanks for the advice! Well... tomorrow I'm having something like a party, and in Russia (I'm from Russia) people love cooking something filled with carbs when they have guests over. So me and my mom are going to cook potato salad, potatoes and beef casserole, then tea with cake... So, it's going to be pretty hard for me to eat anything!!! It's crazy... LOL So I guess I'm starting the induction the day after tomorrow - since this party if for my birthday and it's going to surprise everyone if I don't eat at least some cake LOL Then, I'm thinking, when I get on Atkins, after a while people will get used to it and will not be shocked when I refuse from eating potatoes and stuff like that even for my own birthday.

Re: Allow me to introduce myself

Welcome -- glad you are reading the book, it will help you out in the long run because you have the knowledge you need! Make sure when you start you drink plenty of pure water, exercise daily (something more than what you do naturally) and take a vitamin w/o iron.

I know how hard it is to have others eating things you won't be eating, but there are ways around it -- I don't know what vegetables you have at hand but if you can find cauliflower or turnips they are good substitutes for potatoes. Here is Linda's site - Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Recipes - great ideas for all your meals. If you plan your meals a few days in advance you'll always have everything you need. The first few days may be difficult, but once you get past those you'll start feeling so much better. Don't go hungry - if you are really hungry eat something - a protein and fat is what we normally suggest.

Good luck - hope to see you often. Think about starting a journal, it's a great way to keep yourself on track and meet a lot of wonderful people. Also, look at the challenges - most are starting on the 1st.

The diet is not hard just the key to success is reading the book understanding it and following it!
