  • New dieter info - CRITIQUE ME TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT!!

Hi all, to introduce myself. My name is Olivia, I am female, 28 years old and looking to lose around 8lb, which is what I gained after a bad bout of depression in recent months. I have found over the years that low-carbing is the only thing that seems to work for me, and also improves my health (better skin, better periods, better mood etc) I am committed to this change as a lifestyle, but slipped of track badly after devising my own sorta diet so am determined to embrace Atkins!

I thought if I put on my stats and typical diet, then peeps in the know can critique me!

    Age: 28
    weight: 9st 13lb
    height: 5ft 10
    UK dress size: 10

    goal weight: 9st 5lb

    Daily menu:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, teaspoon west indian hotsauce (sugarfree), sprinkle cheese

snack; babybel, or chicken or atkins bar

lunch: chicken breast (rotisserie), salad( tomato, cucumber slices, lettuce, 2 radish, onion), teaspoon hotsauce, cheddar, sometimes olive oil, avocado or feta instead of cheddar

snack: cheese, celery or an actimel drink

dinner: homemade burgers & salad, or veggi stuffed chicken with parmesan & faux mashed potatoes, low-carb cottage pie (with cauli mash)etc

Drinks: no added sugar robinson's squash, at least 3lt water perday, decaff coffee with cream or unsweetened soya milk, evening drink: tonic water

am dying for something sweet so have been having a small cocoa in evening made with; cup soya milk, 1tsp cocoa powder and 1/6 tsp splenda

What am I doing wrong?!! Please direct me!!

    thankyou, love Olivia x

    Welcome to ADBB

I don't know how easily you will be able to shed those pounds. You are well within normal weight. I recommend adding exercise for toning as well
    We have exercise challenges starting
    Exercise Challenges - Atkins Diet

Your menu is pretty good but not completely legal.
You have items on it that are not on the allowed list for induction for 2002 Atkins. So go through it and weed some things out. The rule is that if it not allowed you do not put it in your mouth
    Startdate: November 18, 2007. Female 5'2"

Hi, thanks for your reply. I already exercise 3/4 times per week, mixture of cardio, weights and classes. Could you please tell me what items are illegal? I am finding converting some of the US products into UK versions tricky, as we don't have readily available low carb stuff in supermarket and don't want to spend mega bucks on the net! Is it the dairy/soya that's the problem?

Many thanks again for your reply

Re: New dieter info - CRITIQUE ME TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT!!

        What's not legal:

Actimel drink (yogurt isn't allowed on Induction), soya milk, cocoa

What's not recommended is the Atkins bar since it has ingredients that aren't allowed on Induction.

You don't need "products" to do Atkins, that's the beauty of it!

Also, the rotisserie chicken ... did you check the list of ingredients? In the US, they are often plumped with a sugar solution and the skin has been floured so it looks "pretty".

Since you're already at a normal weight, maybe you should start with OWL Rung 1.

Welcome and good luck. Here is a copy of the acceptable food listhttp://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html - eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs” (carb minus fiber equal net carbs).

Re: New dieter info - CRITIQUE ME TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT!!

Thanks all for your help! I have taken your suggestions, and switched to lettuce roll ups and stopped using activias. I am following an Atkins induction plan that was published in a UK paper over here, which gives a hot chocolate with soya and cocoa powder as part of tehy menu! It was apparently taken verbatim from the new atkins new you plan, so somewhat confused, but cream was making me feel sick in coffee! Am losing weight now, even though I have had some illegal stuff, but will keep you posted!xxx

Hi - welcome to our international ADBB family

It is good to see another Brit on board

Yes that was in the Daily Mail a while back I think and I remember thinking that they were promoting a lot of stuff that would not be 'legal' on the version of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution we follow here (published 2002 in USA/2003 in UK)

You could probably pick up a copy of DANDR 2002/3 in any charity shop for under 50p, as they all seem to have copies on their shelves.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
