  • Back on the Atkins Wagon!

    Hello!
    My name is Laura. This is my 2nd time around on Atkins.... I lost about 30 lbs about 5 years ago and it slowly crept back on. I am a very emotional and boredom eater, I always eat even though I know I am not hungry! I re-started Atkins in February of this year. I did Medidfast for a month before that... it was my New Years resolution to lose weight and begin a healthy life. Medifast was WAY too expensive and too strict! Low carb is by far the best thing for me! I started at 199 lbs and am now at 152. My goal is 135. My constant setback, however, is the fact that I like a bit of a drink in the evening. I am stressed out at work all day and it is my crutch. I was good all year up until now.... the last few weeks I have had some nips of either brandy or vodka mixed with seltzer... and my weight loss has stopped. Does anyone have tips for stopping? I am having a real will-power problem at this moment! I absolutely love all of the choices on Atkins.... I am enjoying reading so many posts and getting so many great ideas!

    Welcome to ADBB!

    Tip on stopping drinking:

    1. Decide you're not going to drink.

    2. Don't buy it.

    3. Don't pour it.

    4. Just say no.

    5. If needed, go to an AA meeting.

      Try some exercise instead it can be quite relaxing. Get those endorphins kicking in

        You really have to want to stop drinking. These aren't just words - I know from personal experience and there are a few others here who are the same boat. Just stop - when you want to reach for the bottle take a deep breath and stop. Go for a walk, get in the tub, go to the gym, whatever it takes to get your mind off of it. I stopped cold turkey - March 25, 1998 and never looked back. Hopefully you can get your mind in the right place and decide what is more important - your health and getting the weight off OR another drink that won't do anything good for you.

            Thank you for the encouragement! Drank tons of water all weekend and went for walks... it helped!
