  • Scared to fail yet again

Hello everyone my name it Tracey and I'm about to turn 49 and I'm still fat!! Wow, I can't believe I'm crying as I write this. Weight has always been a problem in my life. I was the baby of the family and always the biggest. I've been able to lose weight through the years but quickly put it all back on and then some. I've been a single mother since my divorce 15 years ago. I have one beautiful, smart daughter getting ready to graduate high school. I'm embarrassed for her to have a mother this big. I also have my elderly parents living with me. The stress of caring and being responsible for everyone is taking it's toll so I eat to escape.

I gave the Atkins diet a half heart try a few years ago but quickly gave up. It was hard when my daughter was young. Money was and is always an issue in my life. I get no support or help from family or my ex. So it was just easier to buy the foods that were cheaper.

But now I think I'm ready! I've suggested my daughter go on this adventure with me since she has put on a bit more weight then she should.
I'm worried about various things like I hate vegetables and sea food. So I'm scared I'm gonna give up and fail again.

I found your forum quite by accident, but after reading all the successful post from other Atkins followers, I became inspired.

So here goes! I have a bit of organizing to do along with shopping. I will post again when I formally start the program.

I AM EXCITED AND READY TO GO

      Welcome
Glad that you are excited to go.
You may have to change your relationship with veggies. It may be a struggle in the beginning but you have a lot to gain so it is worth it

Why not join the veggie challenge that is about to start. You will have plenty of company and help as you do it.

Re: Scared to fail yet again

        Welcome cKt.....

I too am a single mommy and know exactly how you feel about being embarrased about your perception of your weight. You have to believe you are worth it, first!

I just got back on plan today from staying off for a good week and half I feel like. I got overwhelmed by family issues and work issues and money issues and life issues and then KABOOM!!!! I'm dump trucking edibles into my grillage!!!! YIKES!

But, here's the AHA! moment....I can get back on track. There it is. That's it. Just get back on track if you wander off course. Stop. Gather your wits about yourself...pull those boot straps up and march on!

I think the veggie situations will grow as you work on staying on plan, you will find there is an urge and need for your body to make you stick veggies in. I didn't have the veggie issue so maybe someone with that experience can stop by and add something in regard to how they ramped up their veggie intake....cause there is someone or several someone's who can give you some tips and tricks. That's what is great about this board.....lots of mini stories make up this awesome novel of people and you can add your page too.

Everyday will not be easy but it will be a day that you have committed to working toward taking care of you! With the support of your daughter and knowing you have to be there for your parents, I think you will stick to plan just fine and do an excellent job.

We are all here to support you! Just keep coming back. Hugs!!!

        Best Wishes!

Welcome to the best. You should try different ways of eating your vegies why not add some spices for a different taste or try different recipes and decide what you like.
I wish you all the best.

Re: Scared to fail yet again

I want to thank everyone for their replies and good wishes. I will be starting my new life next week. I'm still waiting for my books to arrive so I can fully understand what I'm about to undertake. I'll post again as soon as I've started. I'm sure I'll have plenty of question and hopefully I'll find a lot of recipes for veggies. That will be my biggest huddle, veggies. But like you said, I just have to find ways to make them taste yummy.

Thanks again everyone and best of luck to you as well.

No need to eat sea food. I rarely do.

Good job for getting the books! Which ones did you get?

And it's good that you are planning! If you are looking for a tool to help you track your foods, you might want to give FitDay a try:

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

You could also write down your foods in a notebook and only count the carbs. For that, you can look up foods in the USDA database:

What a great description of ADBB!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hi Tracey, I also want to welcome you to the board as well.. and wish you the best of luck on your journey...I have come to learn that you can't keep thinking in terms of failing..I have been on Atkins since June of last year..I have quite a few times fallen off the wagon, but I always say that what I have learned to be successful, is to forgive yourself and then get back on the plan...I also learned that exercise really is the key.. I was one of those who really didn't believe it.. and honestly at 400 pounds there wasn't that much I could do..walking 30 seconds on the treadmill, I felt like I needed oxygen..I always advise people to appreciate the little things you achieve, and not look at it in the big picture..because it will make you crazy...In fact I bought a dress, the other day, at the big women shop, but I didn't have to buy the biggest size they had, like before.. I was proud of myself just for that tiny thing...Good luck and wishing you so much success...

Re: Scared to fail yet again

Hi Tracey, Welcome to the board. I've recieved a lot of help from those more experienced than me. They are easy to listen to and are encouraging.

One thing is for sure, we all can sympathize with you since we all have experienced what you are feeling or have felt, to one degree or another.

Be realistic with yourself. Set some mini goals. The mountain is easier to climb one step at a time.

Don't beat yourself up if you fall of the wagon. It will likely happen at one time or another. Try not to. But, if you do, be determined to jump right back on. It's ok to make a mistake, as long as we learn from it.

You will do well. I can tell by your comments. You are ready. Go for it. We're behind you.
