  • Newbie on day 3

Hi from a Brit in Germany!

This is my first time on Atkins, but not my first time dieting. I'm on Day 3 now and was pleased to find this morning that I'd dropped 6 pounds and my water retention had totally disappeared! Just another 90 pounds to go now....

I need to lose weight because I have insulin resistance and high blood pressure, plus 230 lbs is definitely too much on my 5 ft 4 in frame. I've not actually had any induction-type symptoms so far, but to be honest I'm not quite sure yet how sustainable Atkins will be for me.

However, I must say I'm really motivated and inspired by the success stories I have read on here

    Why not?

There's more to Atkins than just Induction. Have you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Yes, I'm about half way through it at the moment. I'm lucky that I don't have sugar cravings - banished them on the insulin resistance diet - but cutting down on bread and rice and pasta is a bit mind-boggling for me.

        Why, exactly?

Do you think these foods are necessary in life?

Well, I was brought up on large amounts of carbs and never got out of the habit. I've never tried to plan meals without carbs before. And they have always been my comfort food too.

Well, you can have new "comfort food". And you can learn that food doesn't solve life's problems. And you can learn new habits.

Atkins isn't "no carbs", so you need to plan meals with the right kind of carbs.

If your long term plan is to go back to the way you ate before, you'll probably end up right back where you are.

Welcome....I'm on day 2 and I've lost 4lbs so I'm a little giddy!!! I did have an "acceptable" Atkins bar tonight as the cravings got too much to bear so I will probably be stalled for a day or so...hopefully not

Having that Atkins bar may just keep the cravings alive. Giving in to your cravings is generally self-defeating.

Atkins bar may be acceptable but not always a great choice. It stalls many people.
What were your cravings for? It they were for sweet stuff - try to shake it. Try a pickle or something

I know the Lipolysis strips aren't a sure thing but I think the Atkins bar that I ate did kick me out of ketosis Oh well...lesson learned

I think you're jumping to conclusions, but if it keeps you from eating them, then that's not a bad thing, eh?

The strips don't show a reaction to a particular food. That's not their purpose.
