  • Hello:-)

I am new to the forum and would like to say hi to everyone. I have tried to lose weight for a while and without any hope. I have lost in the past but this time I don't know what is different! But I have tried Atkins once and had a very hard time, I have low blood sugar and when it drops to low I get very sick. I will try it again, maybe with your help I will be able to reach my idea weight.
Well it is good to be with you and look forward to a great friendship.

    Welcome to ADBB!

I have low blood sugar and when it drops to low I get very sick.
Make sure you eat every few hours.

Get enough calories and all your net carbs (most from vegetables), and spread your carb intake throughout the day.

If you have a low blood sugar episode, try eating a tomato or some carbier vegetable.

    Which book are you reading?

      Re: Hello

The question..what book I am reading I am think you are asking about a atkins book, at the moment none. Do you think I need to be reading a book I can find all I need from the web it has the 1,2,3,4,plans of the diet.
But if you think there is more in a book please guide me in the right direction. Thank you for your welcome.

        Re: Hello

We recommend reading the book and holding on to it. It is very inspirational and explains why you are heavy and why low carbing is the solution.
Here we use Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 as the book we follow. It is the last book written by the late Dr. Atkins. It is the one we use on this board and that we have lost weight with.
On the net there is a lot of mis information. So be careful.

Yes, that's what I meant... Atkins book.

Do you think I need to be reading a book
          Absolutely!

A lot of the information online is not correct... not even at Atkins.com.

There are several Atkins books out there. The book we follow at ADBB is the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution.

              Thanks
I am a slow loser and I was not in a hurry so I declared goal on my 2 year anniversary of Atkins. That is when the picture is from. And I am feeling fine. I am thinner now than I have been since my early twenties - which is fine. I am in really good health last time I checked. I have started running and am in great shape. I have a doctors appointment next month for a check up and I can let you know then what my doctor says. Kidneys are great I think
We just had Cleo post a link to a new research that proved that there is no truth to the myth that eating low carb is a problem for your kidneys. You can find the thread here

Also until you have the book here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you.

                  Re: Hello

Welcome -- I saw where you ask about Liv's kidneys. It is a common misconception that if you follow Atkins you will have kidney and other internal organ damage. Nothing could be further from the truth. When I first started the doctor told me I had fatty liver - with Atkins help I no longer have that diagnosis. My cholesterol, triglicerides and blood sugar are all in the normal range and my kidneys are "normal" also. This is one of the misconceptions put out by people who haven't read the book, have no idea what the Atkins program is about and don't take the time to find out. My Internist and Endocrinologist are thrilled with the progress I've made and both were nay-sayers to Atkins when I started. They have changed their minds now and I'm happy to say I've changed my life and health in the meantime.

                  Good luck to you.
                  Carole
